BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team held Bemidji State without a field goal for more than 10 minutes in the second half on its way to a 75-66 win over the Beavers in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Friday night in Bemidji, Minn.
The Dragons improved to 10-7 overall and 7-6 in the NSIC with their third straight win, while Bemidji State fell to 7-10 overall and 3-10 in the league.
Three MSUM players scored in double figures, led by a double-double from junior
Megan Strese, who had 18 points and 13 rebounds. She added three steals. Senior
Kaycee Charette had 17 points and a career-high five steals. Junior
Morgan Zabel added 11 points off the bench. Four Dragons had two assists: Strese, Charette, senior
Marisa Yernatich and Zabel.
The Dragons shot 35.7 percent (20-of-56) from the field, compared to 39.3 percent (22-of-56) for Bemidji State. MSUM had a big advantage at the free-throw line, however, hitting 27-of-39 attempts, compared to 17-of-20 for Bemidji State. The Dragons also outrebounded the Beavers 42-37 and committed just 10 turnovers, compared to 17 for Bemidji.
MSUM – which hit its first seven attempts from three-point range – trailed 16-13 at the 13:13 mark of the first half before a 10-0 run vaulted the Dragons into the lead at 23-16. Freshman
Jessy Noreen drained a three-pointer to open the run while Charette drained a three at the 11:13 mark to cap off the run.
Bemidji State climbed within 33-31 with 3:48 left. Strese – who hit 14-of-16 free throws, just two away from the MSUM single-game record – and Zabel each drained a pair of free throws to put the Dragons up 37-31, which was the halftime score.
Bemidji State opened the second half on a 15-7 run to take a 46-44 lead with 14:03 left in the contest. From there, over the next seven minutes, the Dragons began to assume control, outscoring Bemidji 14-6 to build a 58-50 lead. Strese led the run with eight points and by going 6-of-6 from the foul line.
Bemidji was as close as 70-64 with 1:22 left, but the Dragons went 5-of-6 from the line – including 3-of-4 from Strese and 2-of-2 from Charette – to ice the 75-66 win.

Haley Thomforde each had nine points for MSUM, while redshirt freshman
Meghan Roehrich added five points off the bench.
MSUM is at Minnesota-Crookston on Saturday for a 4 p.m. game. MN-Crookston lost to Northern State, 72-60 on Friday in Crookston.
Steve d'Eustachio Stat of the Game: With tonight's victory, the Dragons have now won 13 of their last 15 versus Bemidji State. Their only two losses during this stretch that dates back to 2006 was a 92-91 overtime loss at Bemidji on February 2, 2008 and a 75-68 home loss to the Beavers on Dec. 2, 2011.
