MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team stretched its winning streak to seven with an impressive 82-48 rout of Bemidji State in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Saturday at Alex Nemzek Hall in Moorhead, Minn.

The Dragons (12-1, 6-1 NSIC) remained in a tie for first in the NSIC along with Minnesota State, Mankato and Northern State. The three teams are one game ahead of Winona State, St. Cloud State and Augustana. Upper Iowa, which also entered the day tied for first, was playing SMSU when this article was published. Bemidji State fell to 6-5 overall and 4-3 in the NSIC.

Four MSUM players scored in double figures, led by senior Anthony Tucker with 19 points. He also had a game-high five assists. Sophomore Jordan Riewer and freshman Tyler Vaughan each had 17 points, with both hitting five 3-pointers each. Senior Alex Novak had 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds for MSUM.

Leading 31-22 at halftime, the Dragons took control of the game with solid all-around play in the second half. They shot a blistering 67.9 percent (19-of-28) from the field in the second half, including 69.2 percent (9-of-13) from three-point range. Vaughan hit four of his three-pointers in the second half.  MSUM also held Bemidji State to just 35.7 percent shooting in the contest, including just 3-of-14 from three-point range in the final 20 minutes.

Bemidji State scored the first basket of the second half to cut the lead to seven, but MSUM answered with a 20-9 run over the next seven minutes to stretch the lead to 51-33 with 12:05 left. Novak keyed the run with eight points, all in the paint, while Riewer had six points on a pair of threes and Tucker added four.

Bemidji State was as close as 51-37 with 11:20 left, but a 10-0 run helped the Dragons take command. Vaughn had five points during the key spurt while Tucker drained a three. From there, MSUM pushed the lead to as many as 34 on its way to the win.

The first half was close much of the way, although the Dragons used a late run to surge into the lead. They trailed 20-18 with 8:23 left before ending the half on a 13-2 run to take a nine-point lead into halftime. Tucker hit back-to-back threes during that run while freshman Brady Wohler had four points and Vaughan hit a three as the first-half clock expired.

Riewer finished with three assists and two steals for MSUM. Senior Eric Olson had four points, five rebounds and two assists off the bench.

MSUM ended its homestand a perfect 5-0 and will go on the road for a pair of NSIC games next weekend, starting Friday at Concordia-St. Paul.

Steve d'Eustachio Stat of the Game: Dragon Head Coach Chad Walthall remained undefeated (6-0) versus Bemidji State with tonight's 82-48 victory. The Beavers remain as the only NSIC team yet to beat Walthall and the Dragons since he took over in 2010.
