MARQUETTE, Mich. -- A win by the 400 freestyle relay highlighted competition for the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's swimming and diving team at a double dual with Northern Michigan and St. Cloud State, which was held on Friday in Marquette, Mich.
Facing stout competition, MSUM fell to St. Cloud State, 167-74 and to Northern Michigan, 169-74. The losses ended a winning streak of seven straight duals for the Dragons. The Dragons will compete against both teams in a double dual again on Saturday.
MSUM's 400 freestyle relay win came in exciting fashion in the final event of the evening. The Dragons rallied to win the even, finishing with a winning time of 3:40.02, just .31 seconds ahead of St. Cloud State and .39 seconds ahead of Northern Michigan. It is the first time ever MSUM has beaten those teams in that event. MSUM's relay consisted of sophomore

Angelee Hale and senior
Megan Rieland.  All four Dragons on that relay had fast splits – Bordak 55.83, Kitzman 54.81, Hale 55.35 and Rieland 54.03.
Rieland had a great evening for MSUM. She was out-touched for second in the 50 free by .01 seconds; she took third with a fast time of 25.33. She also had the fastest relay splits of any of the teams with a 54.14 on the 400 medley relay and 54.03 on the 400 free relay.
Bordak was third in the 200 backstroke at 2:13.34, while sophomore
Jackie Woods was third in the 200 breaststroke at 2:31.58. Woods was sixth in the 50 free at 26.08.
Senior
Kelsey Jandro was third in the 3-meter diving with a score of 220.10. Sophomore
Emily Pascavis was fifth at 213.70 with senior
Shayna Dugger sith at 211.40. In the 1-meter diving, Jandro was fourth with a score of 227.15 with Dugger fifth at 226.15.
The MSUM 400 medley relay was fourth at 4:07.41. That conisted of Bordak, Woods, Kitzman and Rieland. Hale was fourth in the 500 free at 5:26.99. Junior
Megan Sanford was fourth in the 1,650 free at 19:22.12 with senior
Laura Goll fifth at 19:49.43.
Lydia Weiler was fifth in the 200 butterfly at 2:22.85, which was a lifetime-best. She also swam a fast time of 5:03.22 in the 400 IM. Kitzman was sixth in the 100 freestyle at 56.02.
Junior
Taylor Miller had three 100 freestyle swims and all of them were faster than her lifetime best. She swam a 56.65 in the open event and had splits of 56.81 on the first relay and led off the last relay with a 56.64.
Saturday's competition begins at 10 a.m. in Marquette.
