Dragon Swimmers and Divers to Battle St. Ben's in Dual on Friday

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's swimming and diving team is back in action on Friday night when it faces the College of St. Benedict in a dual. The meet is set to begin at 6 p.m. in St. Joseph, Minn.

MSUM (5-4 duals) has four consecutive dual wins, including a 3-0 mark at the Carleton quad on Nov. 1 and a convincing 230.5-69.5 win over Concordia-Moorhead last Saturday..

Paced by a strong day from its younger swimmers, MSUM rolled to a win at Concordia Moorhead last Saturday by a score of 230.5-69.5.

Freshman Madison Kuznia won three individual events – the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:03.97, the 200 backstroke at 2:18.61 and the 100 butterfly at 1:05.83.  She was the leadoff leg of the 200 medley relay which won comfortably by seven seconds. That relay included Kuznia and fellow freshmen Claire Sauerman, Kelsey Quigley and Amber Helgoe.

Sauerman won the 100 breaststroke (1:14.36) and the 200 breaststroke (2:44.16), while freshman Megan Palazzolo won the 400 IM (5:07.11) and the 200 butterfly (2:27.53). Freshman Kelly Engbring won the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:27.14 and added a victory in the 100 freestyle at 58.65.

Two Dragon divers, seniors Kelsey Jandro and Shayna Dugger surpassed the 390-point score needed to qualify them for the DII National pre-qualifying meet. Jandro had a lifetime best score of 428.15 points while Dugger was close behind with 425.60. Both were pool records.

Also setting pool records were the Dragons 200 medley relay – which consisted of sophomore Annika Bordak, sophomore Jackie Woods, senior Megan Rieland and junior Susie Kitzman – with a time of 1:53.65; Bordak in the 100 freestyle (55.12); senior Angelee Hale in the 500 free (5:17.49); Kitzman in the 100 butterfly (1:01.20); sophomore Lydia Weiler in the 400 IM (4:52.89); and the 200 free relay (Bordak, Kitzman, junior Taylor Miller and Rieland with a time of 1:41.50.
