Dragon Men Host Crosstown Rival Concordia on Friday

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team returns to action on Friday when it entertains crosstown rival Concordia College. Game time is 7 p.m. at Alex Nemzek Hall on the MSUM campus.

The game will mark the 183th meeting between the two teams, with the Dragons leading 101-81. MSUM won last year's meeting, 70-57 at the Memorial Auditorium on Concordia's campus.

A win on Friday for MSUM would:
--improve their nonconference record under Head Coach Chad Walthall to 19-5.
--be the Dragons' sixth straight home win.
--be MSUM's third straight win over the Cobbers.
--help them to their third straight 3-0 start.

About Minnesota State Moorhead
The Dragons improved to 2-0 on the year with a 94-38 rout of Northland on Nov. 16 at Nemzek. Junior forward Urbane Bingham and sophomore guard Ngijol Songolo paced MSUM with 14 points each, while sophomore forward Ben Figini had 11 points. Senior Taylor Filipek and sophomore Prescott Williams had eight rebounds each for the Dragons.

Bingham leads MSUM at 15.0 points per game, while Figini is at 11.5.  Five Dragons average 8.0 points per game: senior Tarell Clark, Williams, junior Jordan Riewer, Songolo and freshman Aaron Lien. Williams leads MSUM at 6.5 rebounds per game while Songolo leads with eight assists through two games. Clark has four steals. MSUM is averaging 89.0 points per game and allowing 44.5. The Dragons are shooting 53.7 percent from the field, including 41.3 percent from three-point range.

MSUM is outrebounding its opposition 46.5-26.0. Teams are shooting only 29.6 percent against the Dragons this year.

Chad Walthall, who will be facing his alma mater Concordia for a fourth time,  is in his fourth season as MSUM's head coach with a record of 57-33 at the school.

About Concordia College
The Cobbers are 1-0 on the year. They opened with a home 63-39 win over Minnesota-Morris in a nonconference game on Nov. 15. Concordia led 34-20 at halftime and continued to pull away in the second half.

Freshman forward Austin Hawkins led Concordia with 13 points while adding eight rebounds, while sophomore guard Tom Fraase added 10 points. Sophomore Jordan Bolger had nine rebounds while junior guard Brandon Giese had seven assists. The Cobbers shot 43.6 percent (24-of-55) while holding the Cougars to 31.8 percent (14-of-44) shooting.

Concordia possesses a young team with no seniors and four juniors.

Rich Glas is in his sixth season as Concordia's head coach with a record of 64-62 at the school.

Feels Like Home
MSUM is a perfect 11-0 in nonconference games under Walthall. During his tenure, MSUM is 36-10 at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse.
