MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team wraps up the pre-holiday portion of its schedule on Wednesday when it faces nationally-ranked Augsburg College. The dual begins at 7 p.m. at Si Melby Hall in Minneapolis, Minn.
MSUM is 2-0 in duals this season while Augsburg is 1-0. The Auggies are ranked No. 2 in the latest NWCA Division III poll.
The dual will be MSUM's final action of the 2013 calendar year. The Dragons next action is on Jan. 4, 2014 at the Grand Canyon Duals in Phoenix, Ariz.
MSUM had a good showing at the Dragon Open on Saturday. Freshman
Blake Bosch (125) and senior
Matt Lewellen (184) both earned runner-up finishes for the Dragons in the Red Division while freshman
Garret Hoffner was a runner-up at 149 pounds in the White Division. Redshirt freshman
Isaac Novacek was third at 141 pounds in the Red Division.
The Dragons are led by junior
Michael Joseph, who is 18-8 at 174 pounds, and Lewellen, who is 17-7 at 184 pounds. Bosch is 9-4 on the year at 125 pounds while Hoffner is 8-2 at 149 pounds.
Kris Nelson is in his fifth season as MSUM's head coach.
About Augsburg
The Auggies competed at the Dragon Open last Saturday. Junior Matthew Hechsel (197) and senior Chad Johnson (285) won individual titles for the Auggies.
Hechsel, who is ranked No. 3 in Division III at 197, is 8-0 on the year for Augsburg. Johnson is 7-0 and the two-time defending Division III national champion at 285 pounds; he is ranked No. 1 in the class in Division III. Junior Will Keeter is ranked No. 5 at 157 pounds and has a 7-2 mark on the year.
Mark Matzek is in his sixth year as Augsburg's head coach.
What's ahead for MSUM…
The Dragons will compete at the Grand Canyon Duals on Jan. 4, 2014 in Phoenix. MSUM will take part in
