MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team faces a pair of big conference games on the road this weekend, starting with a game Friday at St. Cloud State in a battle for first place in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference's North Division. Game time is 6 p.m. in St. Cloud, Minn. MSUM wraps up the weekend at Minnesota-Duluth on Saturday (4 p.m. tipoff).
MSUM (14-8, 11-7 NSIC) is tied for first with St. Cloud State (15-7, 11-7) for first in the north division. Both teams are one game ahead of Mary and Northern State in the north. UMD is 11-11 overall and 8-10 in the league.
The Dragons will meet St. Cloud State for a 48th time, with the Huskies holding a 29-18 advantage. SCSU beat the Dragons, 79-56 in December at Nemzek Hall. UMD and MSUM will meet for a 75th time, with the Bulldogs holding a 48-26 series lead, including a 65-50 win over the Dragons in December.

About MSUM
MSUM (14-8) has won seven of eight games, including a weekend sweep at home last weekend. MSUM beat No. 18-ranked Augustana, 69-60 on Friday thanks to a career-high 24 points from junior
Morgan Zabel, and followed with a 67-62 win over Wayne State on Saturday, with Zabel scoring 18 points.
Junior
Megan Strese averages 15.0 points and 9.8 rebounds per game to lead MSUM. Zabel averages 12.8 points per game and also is shooting a team-best 90.6 percent from the field. Senior
Marisa Yernatich averages 12.3 points per game. The Dragons shoot 39.5 percent from the field and score 66.7 points per game. They outrebound their opponents, 40.0-35.0 and allow 64.6 points per game on defense.
Karla Nelson is in her 13th season as MSUM's head coach with a record of 222-145.
About St. Cloud State
St. Cloud State is 15-7 overall and 11-7 in the NSIC. The Huskies ended a three-game losing streak with a 93-72 win at home over Upper Iowa on Saturday. A night earlier, SCSU lost in overtime to Winona State, 71-69.
Jessica Benson leads the Huskies at 14.7 points per game, while Sam Price is at 14.1. Benson leads at 7.2 rebounds per game while Nicole Anderson leads at 3.4 assists per game. As a team, SCSU shoots 40.9 percent from the field and scores 70.2 points per game. The Huskies and their opponents both average 35.4 rebounds per game while SCSU allows just 60.9 points per game on defense.
Lori Fish is in her fifth season as SCSU's head coach with a record of 72-60.
About UMD
The Bulldogs are 11-11 overall and 8-10 in the NSIC. The Bulldogs split at home last weekend, beating Upper Iowa, 65-53 before losing to Winona State, 78-64.
Katrina Newman is averaging 15.6 points per game for the Bulldogs, while Hannah Rutten is at 11.8. Courtney Doucette is averaging 10.1 points per game for UMD. Newman leads at 7.9 rebounds per game, while Kaiya Sygulla has a team best 62 assists. As a team, UMD shoots 35.9 percent from the field and scores 62.3 points per game. The Bulldogs outrebound their opponents, 41.0-36.5, and allow 62.5 points per game.
Annette Wiles is in her fifth season as UMD's head coach with a record of 80-56 at the school.
Preseason Poll
MSUM was picked to finish 11th in the NSIC in a polling of the league's coaches. The Dragons were picked to finish fourth in the NSIC's North Division.
Yernatich Adds to Three-Point Record
Senior
Marisa Yernatich has set the standard for three-point shooting during her career for MSUM, and has the record to prove it. Yernatich now has 187 three-pointers for her career and holds the all-time record. She tied the single-game school record she had set previously with seven 3-pointers in the 71-65 win over Minnesota-Crookston on Jan. 4.
