SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- No. 17-ranked Augustana proved too much for the Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team on Wednesday, beating the Dragons, 39-3 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate conference action in Sioux Falls, S.D.
MSUM fell to 8-7 overall and 3-4 in the NSIC, while Augustana improved to 9-6 and 5-3 in the league.
The Dragons were hindered by two forfeits (133 and 174), which cost them 12 points. Augustana also recorded a pin, a win by technical fall and a major decision in the match. Sophomore heavyweight
Gerad Fugleberg recorded the lone win for MSUM, a 6-5 decision over Augustana's Brian Schultz at 285.
Augustana won the first nine matches -- including two by forfeit -- on its way to a 39-3 lead. MSUM had a pair of close matches where it came up short. At 157, Augustana's Shawn Hatlestad beat
Mariano Portillo, 4-2, while at 184, Jeff Nielsen beat MSUM's
Lucas Moderow, 3-2.
Fugleberg helped the Dragons avoid the shutout with a 6-5 win over Schultz at 285.
MSUM will look to rebound Saturday at Southwest Minnesota State as it wraps up the dual-meet portion of its season.
