MSUM Women to Face No. 17 Mavericks in NSIC/Sanford Health Quarterfinals

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team continues play in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference/Sanford Health Tournament on Saturday when it faces No. 17-ranked Minnesota State, Mankato in the quarterfinals at 4 p.m. in Mankato, Minn.

MSUM (16-11) opened the tournament with a 62-50 win over Sioux Falls on Wednesday, while Mankato (22-4) beat Bemidji State, 94-77.

In the all-time series, Minnesota State holds a 21-14 edge over the Dragons, including a 74-55 win in Mankato on Jan. 12, 2013. Senior Kaycee Charette led MSUM with 12 points in the loss.

About MSUM
MSUM (16-11) advanced in the NSIC Tournament with a 62-50 win over Sioux Falls on Wednesday. Junior Morgan Zabel led the way with 15 points.

Junior Megan Strese leads the Dragons at 14.6 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. Zabel is at 12.9 points per game, while senior Marisa Yernatich is at 12.1 points per contest. Junior Haley Thomforde leads with 3.4 assists per game and also leads with 38 steals along with Charette. As a team, MSUM scores 66.3 points per game and shoots 39.6 percent from the field. The Dragons outrebound their opponents, 40.7-35.1, and allow 64.3 points per game.

Karla Nelson, who has never had a losing season as Dragon head coach, is in her 13th season as MSUM's head coach with a record of 224-147.

About Minnesota State
Minnesota State (22-4) has won 12 in a row, including a 94-77 rout of Bemidji State in the opening round of the NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament on Wednesday. Five players scored in double figures for Mankato, led by Aubrey Davis with 18 points.

Ali Wilkinson leads Mankato at 17.5 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. She is shooting 56.9 percent from the field. Davis averages 11.9 points per game, while Karlee Gengenbacher averages 10.4 points per game.  Alli Hoefer averages 3.5 assists per game for Mankato.  Minnesota State shoots 44 percent from the field and scores 77.1 points per game. Mankato outrebounds its opponents, 40.7-35.1 and allows 64.3 points per game.

Emilee Thiesse is in her first season as Mankato's head coach with a record of 22-4.

Yernatich Re-Writing 3-Point Records
Senior Marisa Yernatich has set the standard for three-point shooting during her career for MSUM, and has the record to prove it. Yernatich now has 196 three-pointers for her career and holds the all-time record.  With her two 3-pointers against Sioux Falls, Yernatich tied the single-season record with 62 three-pointers. She tied the single-game school record she had set previously with seven 3-pointers in the 71-65 win over Minnesota-Crookston on Jan. 4.
