ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Senior forward
Megan Strese recorded a double-double, but the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team fell short against St. Cloud State on Saturday, dropping a 93-72 decision to the Huskies in action at Halenback Hall in St. Cloud, Minn.
MSUM fell to 10-8 overall and 6-8 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference with the loss, while St. Cloud State improved to 12-6 overall and 8-6 in the league.
Strese finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds for the Dragons, going 9-of-13 from the field. Sophomore guard
Meghan Roehrich added 19 points – narrowly missing a career-high – in 23 minutes off the bench. Senior forward
Morgan Zabel, who is now just 36 points away from 1,000, added 13 points. Zabel and senior
Haley Thomforde each led with three assists.
The Dragons, who never led in the game, shot 45.8 percent (27-of-59) compared to 56.5 percent (35-of-62) for St. Cloud State. MSUM outrebounded the Huskies 36-28.
For the second straight game, MSUM faced a 10-0 deficit to start the contest and trailed 18-5 with 15:04 left in the first half. The Dragons got back into the game by outscoring the Huskies 21-8 over the next 11 minutes to tie the game at 26-26 with 4:06 left in the half. Strese was the catalyst with nine points during that stretch while Roehrich and Zabel had five points apiece.
Despite the comeback, MSUM was only able to tie the game as St. Cloud State pushed its lead back to six (37-31) at halftime. Strese had 12 first-half points for MSUM.
A Zabel jumper brought MSUM within 46-41 with 15:40 left, but the Huskies responded with a 10-2 run to push their lead to 56-43, and the Dragons never got closer than 12 the rest of the way.

Savanna Handevidt added six rebounds for MSUM.
MSUM begins a four-game homestand on Friday against Upper Iowa. Game time is 6 p.m. at Nemzek Fieldhouse.
