MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Upper Iowa's Joey Woods converted a three-point play with 2.5 seconds in the extra frame left to help the Peacocks outlast the Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team 109-107 in overtime in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Friday in Moorhead, Minn.
MSUM fell to 14-5 overall and 10-5 in the NSIC with the loss, while the Peacocks improved to 9-10 overall and 7-8 in the league.
The Dragons had five players in double figures, led by a career-high 25 points from junior
Malik Wood. Junior
Urbane Bingham had 20 points, while senior
Tarell Clark had 16 points and a career-high 18 rebounds for his fifth double-double of 2013-14.  Sophomore

MSUM shot 53.2 percent (33-of-62) while Upper Iowa shot 43.8 percent (32-of-73). The Dragons had a 49-39 edge in rebounds. MSUM committed 18 turnovers, compared to 12 for Upper Iowa.
In a game with 18 ties and 18 lead changes, MSUM led 103-99 in overtime after Clark hit a layup. Upper Iowa's Grant Lang hit a three to cut the lead to 103-102, but Wood hit two free throws to make it 105-102 with 34 seconds left.
Upper Iowa scored four straight to take a 106-105 lead. Wood then was fouled and hit a pair of free throws with nine seconds left to give the Dragons a 107-106 lead. Woods converted in the closing seconds for Upper Iowa and hit the free throw to push Upper Iowa in front 109-107.
The Dragons had the ball but was unable to get a shot off in the final seconds but came up short.
The first half was competitive the whole way. MSUM led 14-8 after a layup by Bingham with 16:06 left in the half. Upper Iowa came back to take a 27-20 lead with 11:04 left in the half, but MSUM came back quickly minutes later to regain the lead at 31-29 after Vaughan buried a three-pointer.
The game was tied at 47-47 at halftime as both teams proved proficient offensively in the opening 20 minutes. The first half featured seven ties and 10 lead changes alone. MSUM shot 54.8 percent (17-of-31) from the field compared to 45.5 percent (15-of-33) for Upper Iowa. Vaughan led MSUM with 10 first-half points while Clark had nine points and nine rebounds.
MSUM opened the second half on a 16-4 run to push the lead to 63-51 with 15:43 left. Bingham and Wood each had five points during that run. Upper Iowa cut the lead to 63-59 but the Dragons pushed the lead to 68-60 after Vaughan hit a three-pointer.
The Peacocks came back to take an 84-78 lead, but Vaughan hit back-to-back threes to tie the game at 84-84. Moments later, Bingham drained a three to put MSUM in front 87-86.
The Dragons led 90-86 but Upper Iowa scored the final four points of regulation to tie the game at 90-90. MSUM had the ball late in regulation but was unable to get a shot off before the buzzer, sending the game to overtime.
MSUM plays host to NSIC-leading and No. 25-ranked Winona State on Saturday at 6 p.m.
