MINOT, N.D. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team fell to Minot State, 4-0 in its season finale on Sunday in Minot, N.D.
The Dragons ended the season 3-14 overall and 2-13 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while Minot State, which is the No. 5 seed in the upcoming league tournament, improved to 10-6-2 overall and 9-5-1 in the league.
Junior goalkeeper
Ashley Leintz paced the Dragons with nine saves. Senior
Erin Nyberg, playing in her last game as a Dragon, led the team with two shots. Senior
Stephanie Lindo, also playing in her final collegiate game, added a shot, as did junior
Cara Zastrow and sophomore
Jessica Johnson. Johnson had the Dragons' lone shot on goal.
Minot State scored just 16 seconds into the game to take a 1-0 lead, but the Dragons hung tough throughout the first half and trailed just 1-0 at halftime. However, the Beavers added three second-half goals to pull away and secure the win.
MSUM will lose just two seniors – Nyberg and Lindo – from this year's roster and are slated to return 13 players who started at least six games or more this season.
