FAIRBANKS, AK. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team continued its hot start to the season after defeating Black Hills State 80-61 on Friday night. The Dragons used a balanced attack to defeat the Yellow Jackets, as all 10 players who saw action in Friday's game scored.
With the win, MSUM is now 4-0 on the season.
MSUM dominated the glass; outrebounding the Yellow Jackets 39-28. The Dragons defense also played well and held Black Hills State to just 37.5 percent shooting from the field.
Senior guard
Jordan Riewer led the Dragons in scoring and rebounds, posting 17 points and eight rebounds. Senior forward
Urbane Bingham chipped in 16 points and two rebounds. Junior
Tyler Vaughan led the team with four assists and added eight points. Junior forward
Isaac Sevlie led MSUM with three blocks and had nine points.
The Dragons jumped out to a 10-3 lead after three-pointers from Riewer and Vaughan. At the 11:38 mark in the half, Bingham blocked a three-point attempt and senior
Prescott Williams finished the fast break on the other end of the court with a one-handed dunk after an assist from freshman guard
Tanner Kretchman. MSUM led 18-9 at that point. The largest lead of the first half came at 3:22 when sophomore forward
Matt Nelson hit a three-pointer to give the Dragons a 15-point lead at 36-21.
The Dragons led by as much as 22 points in the second half, with Riewer hitting a three-pointer to give MSUM a 52-30 lead with 14:11 left in the half. Black Hills State never got closer than 16 points after that point and the Dragons went on to win the game 80-61.
MSUM will win the Alaska Invitational with a win tomorrow against host team, Alaska Fairbanks. Game time is 10 p.m. central time
