HAYWARD, Calif. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team led 33-28 at halftime, but Cal State-East Bay rallied in the second half to secure a 63-59 win over the Dragons in nonconference action Friday night in Hayward, Calif.
MSUM fell to 1-3 overall while East Bay improved to 3-1.
Junior guard
Meghan Roehrich led the Dragons with 21 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Junior forward
Savanna Handevidt had nine points while junior forward
Heather Strese had eight points and shared the team lead with Roehrich with eight boards.
The Dragons shot just 31.5 percent (17-of-54) for the game, including just 26.1 percent (6-of-23) in the second half. MSUM shot 67.9 percent from the free-throw line (19-of-28) and had a 42-38 edge in rebounds.
MSUM was down 13-4 eight minutes into the contest but outscored the Pioneers 29-15 after the final 11 minutes of the opening half to take a 33-28 lead into halftime. Roehrich scored 19 of her 21 points in the final 11 minutes of the first half to spark the Dragon run. MSUM's biggest lead was 33-26 after junior guard
Jessica Hart converted a three-point play with 1:10 left in the first half.
Roehrich was 4-of-5 from three-point range in the first half alone as the Dragons led by five at the break.
East Bay came back to take a 37-35 lead three minutes into the second half, and from there, the game was close the rest of the way with the biggest lead for either team being four points.
MSUM led 52-48 after Strese hit a pair of free throws with 5:16 left, and led 58-57 after a basket from Handevidt. The game was tied at 59-59 moments later before East Bay's Remy Puou scored to put the Pioneers up 61-59 with 36 seconds left.
The Dragons had a chance to tie or take the lead in the final 10 seconds but turned the ball over, and East Bay hit two free throws with three seconds left to ice the game.

MSUM is off until Nov. 29 when it plays at Northern State to open the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season.
