The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team begins the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season on Saturday at Northern State. Game time is 5 p.m. at the Barnett Center in Aberdeen, S.D.

MSUM and Northern State will meet for a 68th time with the Wolves holding a 44-23 series lead. Northern won both meetings a year ago, beating MSUM 96-88 in Moorhead and 70-45 in Aberdeen, S.D. The Wolves have won three straight in the series; MSUM's last win came on Dec. 1, 2012 in Aberdeen, S.D., by a 66-54 score.

About MSU Moorhead
The Dragons are 1-3 on the season after splitting a pair of games in California last week. On Thursday, MSUM beat San Francisco State, 78-67 led by a career-high 32 points from junior guard Meghan Roehrich. On Friday, MSUM fell to Cal State-East Bay, 63-59 on Friday despite 21 points from Roehrich.

Roehrich leads MSUM at 19.3 points per game, while junior forward Savanna Handevidt averages 10.5 points per game. Junior forward Heather Strese averages 7.8 points and a team-best 8.8 rebounds per game. Roehrich and junior guard Jessica Hart have seven assists each, while sophomore guard Morgan Banasik has a team-best seven steals.

MSUM averages 60.8 points per game and shoots 36.4 percent from the field, including 31.5 percent from three-point range. The Dragons outrebound their opponents 41.5-34.5 and allow 62.2 points per game. Teams are shooting 38.1 percent from the field this season against the Dragons.

Karla Nelson is in her 15th season as MSUM's head coach with a record of 241-162 at the school.

About Northern State
The Wolves are 5-0 on the season in nonconference games. The preseason favorites in the NSIC North Division, Northern State has won those games by an average of 22.4 points per game. The Wolves rolled past the South Dakota School of Mines, 68-39 on Nov. 23, led by Rachel Krogman was 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Krogman averages 15.4 points and 10.2 rebounds per game to lead Northern State while Sadie Stotesbery and Megan Mutchler each average 10.4. Krogman also leads with 18 assists. Stotesbery leads five blocks while Kara Hofschild has six steals.

Northern State averages 67.6 points per game while shooting 44 percent from the field. The Wolves outrebound their opponents, 44.8-29.6 and allow only 45.2 points per game. Teams are only shooting 29.5 percent against the Wolves this season.

Curt Fredrickson is in his 36th season as the Northern State head coach with a record of 752-278 at the school.

Roehrich Sets Career-High
Junior forward Meghan Roehrich scored a career-high 32 points in the Dragons' 78-67 win over San Francisco State last Thursday. The Fargo, N.D., native's 32-point total as the most scored in a game by a Dragon player since Jan. 16, 2010 when Alison Nash-Gerlach scored 32 in a win over Minnesota Crookston. Roehrich leads MSUM at 19.3 points per game so far in 2014-15.

Strese Cleans the Glass
With the loss of her older sister, Megan, who was the team's leading rebounder a year ago, junior Heather Strese has stepped in to fill that rebounding void. She leads MSUM at 8.8 rebounds per game, a mark that is second in the NSIC, and tied a career-high with 12 boards in the win over San Francisco State last week.
