Dragon Women Head to St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth for NSIC Matchups This Week

The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team hits the road this week for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games. The Dragons will play at St. Cloud for a 6 p.m. game on Friday and conclude the road trip at Minnesota Duluth on Saturday (4 p.m.).

MSUM will meet Minnesota Duluth for a 78th time with the Bulldogs holding a 49-28 series lead. The Dragons swept both meetings in 2013-14 after the Bulldogs swept MSUM in 2012-13. The Dragons will face St. Cloud State for a 51st time with the Huskies leading the series 31-19.

The Dragons are 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the NSIC. They are coming off of two home wins last weekend, earning a 64-60 win over Minot State on Friday and then topping Mary 87-75 on Saturday. Junior forward Heather Strese led the Dragons by averaging 20.5 points in the two games. MSUM hit 61-of-72 free throws (84.7 percent) in the two wins.

Junior guard Meghan Roehrich leads MSUM at 17.0 points per game while Strese averages 11.0 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Junior forward Savanna Handevidt averages 8.6 points per game. Natalie Van Wyhe averages 2.7 assists per game. MSUM is averaging 62.3 points per game as a team and is shooting 34 percent from the field, including 23.6 from behind the three-point arc. MSUM outrebounds its foes 39.3-36.9.

On defense the Dragons allow 65.4 points per game and teams are shooting 42.1 percent from the field against them this season.

Karla Nelson is in her 15th season as the MSUM head coach with a record of 243-163 at the school.

About St. Cloud State
The Huskies are 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the NSIC. They swept on the road last weekend, beating Bemidji State (76-51) and Minnesota Crookston (67-62) to remain undefeated. Lexy Petermann averaged 14.5 points per game in the wins.

Four SCSU players average In double figures, led by Petermann at 13.0 points per game. Chelsea Nooker (10.7), Karissa LeCaptain (10.5) and Betsy MacDonald (10.0) also average in double figures for the Huskies. Petermann and LeCaptain lead at 7.7 rebounds per game while MacDonald averages 4.0 assists per game. St. Cloud State scores 70.0 points per game and shoots 40.1 percent from the field. The Huskies are being outrebounded by a slight 37.7-37.3 margin.

On defense, the Huskies allow 58.2 points per game and teams are shooting 38.1 percent from the field against them this season.

Lori Fish is in her sixth season as the SCSU head coach with a record of 98-73 at the school.

About Minnesota Duluth
The Bulldogs, who face Northern State prior to facing MSUM, are 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the NSIC. They swept on the road last weekend, beating Minnesota Crookston (71-67) and Bemidji State (88-67). Taylor Meyer, the NSIC North Division Player of the Week, averaged 26 points in the two wins.

Meyer leads the Bulldogs at 18.1 points and 9.0 rebounds per game while Jessica Newman averages 12.1 points per game. Danielle Flood averages 11.9 points and 2.9 assists per game. UMD is scoring 67.9 points per game and shooting 39.2 percent from the field. The Bulldogs outrebound their foes 40.3-33.0.

On defense UMD allows 68 points per game and teams are shooting 43.3 percent against the Bulldogs this season.

Annette Wiles is in her seventh season as UMD's head coach with a record of 100-75 at the school.
