MOORHEAD, Minn.-- Sophomore guard Aaron Lien record the first double-double of his career on Monday night, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds as the Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team defeated Mayville State 75-59. With the win, MSUM is now 11-0 on the season.

The Dragons shot 51.9 percent (27-52) from the field, 43.5 percent (10-23) from the three-point line, and forced 16 Comet turnovers.

Lien finished the night with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field and led the team with 10 rebounds. Senior guard Jordan Riewer led all scorers with 20 points, 18 coming on 6-of-8 shooting from beyond the three-point line. Riewer also led the team with six assists and four steals. Junior guard Tyler Vaughan and senior forward Urbane Bingham each contributed 10 points in the victory.

 

The Comets jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the first five minutes of the game after a fast break dunk from Chuck Robinson. MSUM gained the lead at the 12:44 mark of the first half at 15-12 after a Riewer three-pointer and never relinquished the lead again. The Dragons largest lead of the first half came with seven minutes, 24 seconds to go in the half when senior guard Prescott Williams converted a three-point play at the free throw line to put the Dragons up 27-16.

The score was 48-41 in the second half when MSUM rattled off a 12-0 run sparked by five points and two assists from Riewer. Lien had four points and two rebounds in the stretch. The 60-41 lead at the 8:32 mark was MSUM's biggest lead of the night. Mayville State did not get closer than 12 points after that point. Vaughan capped off the scoring for the night on a layup with 53 seconds to play to make the score 75-59.

MSUM will return to action on the road Friday night when it travels to St. Cloud, Minn. to face St. Cloud State. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m.

Steve d'Eustachio Stat of the Game: The Dragons have now won seven straight games versus Mayville St. and eight straight games against the Comets here in Moorhead. The last Mayville St. win over the Dragons was an 81-68 victory in Mayville on Dec. 30, 2006. The last time the Comets won in Moorhead was on Feb. 15, 1999 when they bested the Dragons 87-79.
