Dragon Men to Square Off with St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth at Home

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team concludes a four-game homestand this week with a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games. The Dragons will host St. Cloud State on Friday at 8 p.m. and conclude the week with a game against Minnesota Duluth on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Both games are at Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead, Minn. Friday's game will be broadcast live on WDAY Channel 6.3, which is Midcontinent Communications Channel 596. Friday is also MSUM's 7th Annual Go Pink Game.

The Dragons are 15-5 overall and 11-5 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and are tied for second place in the NSIC North Division with St. Cloud State. Both teams trail Bemidji State by one game in the north.

MSUM and St. Cloud State will meet for a 124th time with the Huskies holding an 83-40 series lead. The Dragons beat SCSU 95-88 in overtime on Jan. 25.  MSUM will meet the Bulldogs for a 116th time with UMD holding a 77-38 lead. The Dragons won the meeting earlier this season, 76-71.

About MSUM
MSUM split at home last weekend, losing to Upper Iowa, 109-107 in overtime on Friday but beating No. 25-ranked Winona State, 82-80 on Saturday, thanks to a buzzer-beating shot from freshman Aaron Lien.

Junior Urbane Bingham leads MSUM at 12.2 points per game, while senior Tarell Clark is at 11.2 and junior Jordan Riewer averaged 11.1. Clark leads with 7.8 rebounds per game and with 26 total steals. Riewer leads with 67 assists.

MSUM scores 86.2 points per game -- second-best in the NSIC -- and is shooting 48.0 percent from the field, including 39.7 percent from three-point range. The Dragons outrebound their foes 39.7-32.0 and are allowing 73.2 points per contest.

Chad Walthall is in his fourth season as MSUM's head coach with a record of 70-38 at the school.

About St. Cloud State
St. Cloud State is 15-5 overall and 11-5 in the NSIC.  The Huskies swept at home last weekend, beating Wayne State, 90-63 on Friday and then outlasted Augustana, 76-70 on Saturday.

Sophomore guard Jordan Poydras leads St. Cloud State at 14.8 points per game while senior forward Matt Craggs is at 14.5 and senior guard Damarius Cruz at 12.0. Kevin Levandoski also averages in double figures at 10.9. Craggs averages 7.5 rebounds per game while Levandoski average 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game.

As a team, St. Cloud State scores 81.9 points per game and shoots 45.4 percent from the field. The Huskies are being outrebounded by their foes, 37.0-34.5. Teams are scoring 72.4 points per game against St. Cloud State this season.

Kevin Schlagel is in his 17th season as St. Cloud State's head coach with a record of 336-154 at the school.

About Minnesota Duluth
Minnesota Duluth is 8-12 overall and 6-10 in the NSIC. The Bulldogs, who will face Northern State on Friday prior to facing MSUM. UMD split at home last weekend, falling to Augustana, 82-62 but beating Wayne State, 76-53.

Senior Jordan Reetz leads the Bulldogs at 17.1 points per game. Senior Peter Crawford averages 15.9 points per game while Reece Zoelle averages 14.5. Zoelle leads at 5.9 rebounds per game while Crawford leads at 2.4 assists per game.

Minnesota Duluth scores 71.3 points per game and shoots 44.1 percent from the field. The Bulldogs are being outrebounded, 34.8-31.2 and are allowing 76.1 points per game.

Matt Bowen is in his second season as UMD's head coach with a record of 16-30.

Riewer Leads at the Line
Junior Jordan Riewer leads all of Division II in free-throw percentage at 94.3 percent, a mark that is also leading the NSIC.

MSUM ranks in the top 30 in the nation (out of 290 teams in Division II) in three areas:
--rebounding margin, 18th (+7.7)
--scoring margin, 20th (+13.0)
--scoring offense, 25th (86.2)
--three-point percentage, 30th (39.7)

Tarell's Time
Senior Tarell Clark is having a solid all-round season for MSUM. He is third on the team in scoring (11.2) but leads the team in rebounding (7.8 per game) and steals (25). Clark is shooting 52.9 percent from the field, best of any player in the Dragon rotation, and also has an impressive 63 offensive rebounds. Clark scored a career-high 26 points on 10-of-16 shooting in MSUM's 87-63 win over Minnesota Crookston on Jan. 18.

The Jan. 10 game at Southwest Minnesota State was the 100th at MSUM for head coach Chad Walthall.
