MOORHEAD, Minn.--Senior guard
Jordan Riewer continued to build on an impressive season, achieving two career milestones as the Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team defeated Upper Iowa 106-81 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play on Friday night. Riewer surpassed 1,000 points in his career and dished out a career high nine assists in the victory.

With the win, MSUM improves to 15-1 and 6-1 in the NSIC while Upper Iowa drops to 8-5 and 4-3 in the NSIC.

MSUM shot 69 percent (40-58) from the field and 58.3 percent (14-24) from the three-point line. The Dragons also outrebounded the Peacocks 36-24 and complied more assists then Upper Iowa 20-12.

Junior forward
Isaac Sevlie led the Dragons in scoring, tying a career high with 18 points. Riewer led the team with seven rebounds and nine assists. Sevlie added six rebounds and two blocks. Other Dragons to score in double digits included Riewer with 16, freshman guard
Tanner Kretchman, tying a career high with 15, sophomore guard
Aaron Lien with 15, and junior guard
Ngijol Songolo with 12.

MSUM led the entire first half but Upper Iowa closed the gap to 35-34 with 5:22 left. The Dragons scored five points in a row -- three coming on a three-point play from senior forward
Urbane Bingham and two coming from Kretchman -- to push the lead back to six.Â

Songolo buried a three-pointer to give the Dragons their largest lead of the half at 50-41 with 2:14 left. MSUM took a 52-44 lead into halftime.Â

The Dragons shot 66.7 percent (20-of-30) in the first half, compared to 54.8 percent (17-of-31) for Upper Iowa. The Dragons hit 7-of-11 three-point attempts in the first half. Riewer and Songolo led the Dragons with 10 first-half points each.

MSUM scored nine consecutive points to increase its lead from 60-50 to 69-50 early in the second half. Sevlie had the final four points in the run to give the Dragons a 19 point lead with 15:05 left to play. Kretchman hit three straight shots, including two three-pointers for the Dragons to cap a 10-1 run to give MSUM its largest lead of the night at 90-65 with 6:20 to play in the game. Two successful free throws and a layup from Songolo capped the scoring at 106-81 to give MSUM a 25 point victory.

MSUM hosts Winona State on Saturday at 6 p.m. to conclude the weekend.

Steve d'Eustachio Stat of the Game:Â The Dragons won 106-86 versus Northern State back on Dec. 20 and 106-81 here tonight against Upper Iowa. This marks the first time that the Dragons have hit the century mark in back-to-back NSIC games since posting a 113-81 home win against Winona St. on Feb. 24, 1996 and then winning 106-98 against the University of Minnesota Morris two nights later in Moorhead.
