MSUM improved to 10-8 overall and 9-5 in the NSIC with the win while the Beavers fell to 5-14 overall and 2-12 in the league.

The Dragons hit a blistering 15-of-30 three-pointers (50 percent) in the game, breaking a previous record of 14 three-pointers made that had been accomplished three previous times. The last time MSUM hit 14 threes in a game was on Nov. 20, 2010 against Queens College.

On a night when the Dragons set season highs in points scored (94), three-pointers made and attempts (15-of-30), assists (24), three-point percentage (50 percent) and overall field-goal percentage (51.5 percent), eight different Dragons hit three-pointers.

Sophomore guard Morgan Banasik led the Dragons with 20 points and 10 rebounds; it was her second double-double of the season. Junior guard Meghan Roehrich added 20 points and four rebounds while junior forwards Savanna Handevidt and Heather Strese had 14 points each. Sophomore guard Natalie Van Wyhe had six assists. Banasik led with four steals.

It was a game of runs in the first half. MSUM jumped out to a 31-10 lead nine minutes into the game, thanks to hitting 12 of its first 14 shots from the field (85.7 percent). Strese led the way with eight points during that run while Banasik had seven and freshman guard Mallie Doucette six.

Bemidji State responded with a 26-7 run over the next eight minutes to climb within 38-36 with 3:29 left in the half. While the Dragon lead shrunk, MSUM never surrendered the lead, and scored the final five points of the half to take a 43-36 lead into the break.

Handevidt led MSUM with nine first-half points while Strese had eight and Banasik seven. MSUM shot 58.6 percent in the first half, compared to 40 percent (14-of-35) for Bemidji State.

The Dragons took control to open the second half, going on a 21-11 run over the first five minutes, to build the lead to 64-47, the largest it had been since the first half.  Banasik was the catalyst for the Dragons with 11 points while Roehrich had six.

Bemidji State cut the gap to nine on a pair of occasions but got no closer as MSUM went on to the double-digit win.

Doucette finished with nine points and six rebounds off the bench for MSUM. Redshirt freshman forward Drew Sannes had seven points and five rebounds.

MSUM, which has won three straight, continues the homestand on Jan. 30 against Concordia-St. Paul. Game time is 6 p.m. in Moorhead, Minn.
