Riewer Sets Career High with 37 Points as No. 7 Dragon Men Outlast CU 94-82

MOORHEAD, Minn.--Senior guard Jordan Riewer scored a career high 37 points as the Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team outlasted Concordia-St. Paul 94-82 on Friday night in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. Riewer tied a single game school record in the game with nine three-pointers made.

The win was MSUM's 11th consecutive victory as they improved to 23-1 and 14-1 in the NSIC. With the loss, CU dropped to 13-7 and 9-5 in the NSIC.

Riewer led all scorers with 37 points as he shot 10-of-18 from the field, 9-of-12 from the three point line, and 8-of-8 from the free throw line. He also dished out four assists and grabbed four rebounds as well. Junior forward Isaac Sevlie led the team in rebounds with 10 rebounds as he scored 23 points in the game, including 17 in the second half. Junior guard Tyler Vaughan scored 13 points, had six rebounds, and four assists in the game while leading the team with two steals.

The Golden Bears led 5-4 at the 16:57 point of the first half before the Dragons went on a 10-0 run to take a 14-5 lead. Riewer began the run with a layup and finished the run with a three-pointer in transition. Riewer was just getting started, as he hit seven straight three-pointers in a seven minute span to open a 50-32 for MSUM heading into halftime. Riewer hit three three-pointers in 43 seconds with under 90 seconds to play in the half, as he surpassed his previous career high of 26 with 28 points in the first half.

The Golden Bears fought back in the second half, as they began the half on a 19-9 run to cut MSUM's lead to eight at 59-51 with 13 minutes, 26 seconds to play in the game. Sevlie had the play of the night when he slammed home a dunk over a CU defender to make the score 66-57 with 8:48 left in the game. The lead was cut to three when Keith Crockett made a layup on a fast break to make the score 66-63. After that point, the Dragons responded with a 15-5 run to reopen its lead to 81-68 at the 5:21 mark of the game. The Dragons held off the Golden Bears in the final two minutes as they nailed 9-of-12 free throws down the stretch to outlast CU 94-82.

The Dragons will be in action again tomorrow night as they host Minnesota State Mankato tomorrow. Tip of is scheduled for 6 p.m. from Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse.
