Dragon Women Hit the Road to Face Mary and Minot State This Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team begins a stretch of four consecutive road games this week with games at Mary on Friday (6 p.m. tipoff) and at Minot State on Saturday (4 p.m. tipoff).

MSUM (6-6, 5-3 NSIC) swept a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference South Division foes last weekend, beating Upper Iowa 71-67 on Jan. 2 and Winona State, 80-54 on Jan. 3 to get to the .500 mark for the first time this season.

MSUM and Mary will meet for a 35th time with the Dragons leading the series 22-12. The Dragons beat the Marauders, 87-75 in December in Moorhead, Minn. The Dragons will meet Minot State for a 21st time and lead the series 15-5. MSUM beat Minot State 64-60 in December in Moorhead.

The Dragons recorded two home wins in their last action, beating Upper Iowa, 71-67 on Jan. 2 thanks to 24 points and 14 rebounds from junior forward Heather Strese.  A night later, junior forward Meghan Roehrich had 30 points in an 80-54 rout of Winona State.

The Dragons are led in scoring by junior guard Meghan Roehrich, who averages 16.9 points per game. Junior forward Heather Strese averages 11.4 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Natalie Van Wyhe leads with 34 assists while sophomore guard Morgan Banasik leads with 15 steals.  Forward Drew Sannes is averaging 1.3 blocks per game. MSUM averages 61.5 points per game on offense and is shooting 35 percent from the field.  The Dragons are shooting 75.8 percent from the free-throw line this season.

On defense MSUM is allowing 65.6 points per game. The Dragons outrebound their opponents 40.8-35.1.

Karla Nelson is in her 15th season as MSUM's head coach with a record of 246-165 at the school.

About Mary
Mary is 6-8 overall and 4-4 in the NSIC. The Marauders lost two games on the road last weekend, falling at Minnesota Crookston (71-54) on Friday and then falling 72-70 at Bemidji State on Saturday.

Brittney Dietz leads Mary at 18.7 points per game; she is the only Marauder to average in double figures. Hannah Larson averages 6.3 points per game while Haley Hibbs averages 2.9 assists per game. The Marauders score 70.9 points per game and shoot 40.8 percent from the field.

Mary is being outrebounded by its foes by a 41.6-39.4 margin. Teams are shooting 39.3 percent against the Marauders this season.

Rick Neumann is in his third season as Mary's head coach with a record of 42-29.

About Minot State
Minot State is 7-7 overall and 2-6 in the NSIC. The Beavers split on the road last weekend, beating Bemidji State, 81-58 but losing to Minnesota Crookston 59-45 on Saturday.

Three Minot State players average in double figures, led by Christina Boag at 11.5 points per game. Katie Hardy averages 10.8 points per game while Diondra Denton averages 10.7 for the Beavers, who are scoring 66.5 points per game. Boag leads the Beavers in rebounding at 6.9 per contest while Alex Haley and Morgan Klose share the team lad with 41 assists each. Minot State is shooting 45.3 percent.

Minot State outrebounds its foes 36.5-34.0 and is allowing 62.3 points per game on defense. Teams are shooting 38.1 percent against Minot State this season.

Sheila Green-Gerding is in her 20th season as Minot State's head coach with a record of 341-229.
