Sevlie's 37 Powers Dragon Men Past Jamestown, 86-74

MOORHEAD, Minn. — A dominant performance from senior forward Isaac Sevlie helped the No. 6 Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team earn an 86-74 nonconference win over the University of Jamestown Tuesday night at Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead, Minn.

MSUM is now 7-1 on the year while Jamestown is 7-3.

Sevlie set career-highs for points (37), rebounds (14) and field goals (14) in the win. Sevlie finished 14-of-16 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. He also added three blocks.

Senior guard Tyler Vaughan added 16 points and nine rebounds along with a team-high four assists. Sophomore guard Tanner Kretchman had 14 points, while sophomore guard Aaron Lien had 10.

MSUM shot 48.3 percent (29-of-60) for the game, compared to 41.2 percent (28-of-68) for the Jimmies. Neither team shot well from the three-point line, as MSUM hit 22.7 percent (5-of-22) compared to 16.7 percent (4-of-24) for the Jimmies. The Dragons had a 44-32 edge in rebounds.

The Dragons trailed 36-31 at halftime but opened the second half on a 15-2 run to take a 46-38 lead with 16:33 left.  Kretchman had six points during that run while Sevlie had five.

Jamestown was within 63-60 with 7:38 left, but the Dragons pulled away with a 14-4 run to push the lead to 77-64 with 3:50 left. Sevlie ignited the run with eight points while Vaughan had four.

The Jimmies never got closer than nine the rest of the way as the Dragons won their 21st straight home game.

The Dragons head to Minot State on Friday for a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matchup. Game time is 8 p.m. in Minot, N.D.

Steve d'Eustachio Stat of the Game: The Dragons have now won 15 consecutive non-conference home games versus teams based in North Dakota. Their last loss of this sort was a 76-66 loss to the University of North Dakota on Dec. 7, 2004.
