MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team earned its 11th straight victory Friday night with a 77-64 win over St. Cloud State at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead.

MSUM is now 11-1 overall and 4-0 in the NSIC with the win, while St. Cloud State fell to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in the league.

The Dragons were led by senior guard Ngijol Songolo's 16 points and six rebounds, which were accompanied by 16 points, four rebounds and two blocks from senior center Isaac Sevlie. Sophomore guard Tanner Kretchman added 15 points, six assists and four rebounds on the evening.

MSUM shot 46 percent from the field while the Huskies shot 40 percent. The Dragons outrebounded SCSU 43-39 and sniped five steals.

The Dragons trailed 6-2 with 16:41 left in the opening half but went on a 17-0 run over the next six minutes to surge into a 19-6 lead. That run was sparked from the three-point line, with Kretchman and Vaughan each hitting a pair of threes to push MSUM's lead into double digits.

MSUM led 35-28 at halftime.  Vaughan had eight first-half points for MSUM while Sonogolo and Kretchman had six each. MSUM shot 42.9 percent (12-of-28) in the first half, compared to 36.7 percent (11-of-30) for the Huskies.

MSUM started the second half quickly, going on a 13-4 run to open the frame to push the lead to 48-32. Songolo buried a pair of three-pointers to spark the Dragons in that stretch, while Kretchman converted a three-point play.

The Huskies pulled within 13 with just over three minutes remaining, but a monster slam from Sevlie put the game away at 77-59.

MSUM hosts Minnesota Duluth at 6 p.m. on Saturday to conclude the weekend.

Steve d'Eustachio Stat of the Game: The Dragons have now won five straight over the Huskies (tonight; swept last year; swept two seasons ago) for the first time since winning 65-59 on the final day of the 1970 regular season, then winning two six-point affairs in the 1970/1971 season, then again sweeping St. Cloud St. in the 1971/1972 season.
