WHAT'S AHEAD...

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team hits the road this week for two conference matchups against Minot State and the University of Mary. 

The Dragons will face coach Matt Murken's squad who is 4-2 overall and 0-1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference on Friday night at the MSU Dome. The Beavers are averaging 70.8 points and 38.7 rebounds per game. They are led by sophomore forward Tyler Rudolph who is averaging 16.8 points and 10 rebounds per game. Senior guard Dominique McDonald is second on the team with 12.0 points per game and seven total steals. 

On Saturday, the Dragons travel to the University of Mary Marauders  who are coached by Joe Kittell. Kittell's team is 4-1 on the season and 1-0 in the NSIC. The Marauders are averaging 84.4 points and 42.2 rebounds per game. They are currently third in the North Division within the NSIC. U-Mary is led by senior guard Marquealis Edwards who is averaging 17 points and 2.4 assists per game. Junior forward Bryan Jefferson has 14.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.

Monday the Dragons will play host to the Comets of Mayville State in a non-conference battle. The Comets are 5-4 on the season and are led by senior forward Chuck Robinson who has 15.5 points and 9 rebounds per game. Senior guard Jamal Branco puts up 14.4 points and has dished out 38 total assists this season. The Comets are coached by Dan DeWitt.

A LOOK BACK AT LAST WEEK...

Last week, the men opened conference play against a tough Northern State team. The Dragons would win the battle, 71-65, led by senior forward Isaac Sevlie's 14 points, six blocks, and six rebounds. Sophomore guard Tanner Kretchman added 12 points and four assists while senior guards Tyler Vaughan and Ngijol Songolo had 11 each. The Dragons shot 47.1 percent (24-of-51), for the game and held a 41-32 edge in rebounds. With the win, the Dragons are 1-0 in the NSIC. 

Tuesday brought the University  of Jamestown Jimmies to Nemzek Fieldhouse in a non-conference matchup. The Jimmies played tough, but a dominant performance by Sevlie helped the No. 6 Dragons earn the win, 86-74. In the victory, Sevlie set career-highs in points with 37, rebounds with 14, and field goals with 14. He was 14-16 from the field and 9-10 from the free-throw line. He also added three blocks. 

Vaughan contributed with 16 points and nine rebounds along with a team-high four assists. Kretchman put up 14 points and sophomore guard Aaron Lien had 10. In the win, MSUM shot 48.3 percent for the game and grabbed 44 rebounds. 

NOTABLES...

• With the victories over Northern and Jamestown, the Dragons have won 21 straight home games. 

•  Senior center Isaac Sevlie leads the NSIC in both scoring and blocked shots. Sevlie is averaging 23.1 points and 2.1 blocks per game. 

•   Senior guard Tyler Vaughan is second in all-time three-point field goals made with 219. Vaughan is just four triples away from the number one spot, which is currently held by Jordan Riewer (2011-15), who has 222 three pointers. 

•   The Dragons climbed three spots in this week's NABC/Division II poll that was released Tuesday. The Dragons were ninth, but moved up to sixth this week. MSUM entered the rankings on Dec. 2, 2014 with a No. 19 ranking and have been ranked in every poll since. Their highest ranking so far has been fourth.
