Box Score BISMARCK, N. D. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team had six players score in double figrues as the Dragons defeated the University of Mary Marauders 98-81 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play Saturday night in Bismarck.
The Dragons are now 9-1 overall on the season and 3-0 in the NSIC while the Marauders are 5-2 and 2-1 in conference play.
Senior center
Isaac Sevlie continued his dominant play leading all scorers with 22 points. He added 13 rebounds and two blocks on the evening.
Junior guard
Aaron Lien had 21 points and five assists while sophomore guard
Tanner Kretchman added 16 points and for the second night in a row broke his career best in assists with 10.
MSUM shot 55.9 percent from the field for the game and 46.4 percent from three-point range. They outrebounded the Marauders 38-25.
Also scoring in double digits for the Dragons were senior guard
Tyler Vaughan, junior guard
Arroyo Edwards, and junior forward
Ayob Ayob. Edwards set a career high with 13 points all of which were in the first half, Vaughan tallied 10 points and six assists and Ayob had 11 points.
The first half was a back and forth battle with eight lead changes and five ties. The Dragons went on an 11-3 run to give them a 16-9 lead early in the first half. The run was sparked by Sevlie slicing through a triple team to lay it in. Edwards tied the game up at 38 after the Dragons fell behind with the good old fashioned three-point play.
Lien scored 11 points on MSUM's first five possessions of the second half and the Dragons held an 11-point lead. The Dragons were on fire from beyond the arc early in the second as Lien had three three's and Songolo and Kretchman each had one. A three-point basket from Vaughan with just over five minutes remaining gave the Dragons an 85-71 lead. A jumper just outside the paint from Sevlie gave the Dragons a 12-point lead with just under a minute to go to seal the deal.
The Dragons are back in action Monday night at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse taking on non-conference opponent in Mayville State University. The action starts at 7 p.m.
Steve d'Eustachio Stat of the Game:The Dragons won their ninth game in a row tonight making it three straight seasons they have had such a streak. The Dragons won their first 12 in a row last season before falling at Minnesota Duluth, then tacked on another winning streak of 13 before losing at Augustana. Two seasons ago, the Dragons were 9-0 before dropping a 70-69 heartbreaker at the buzzer at Northern St. on Dec. 21, 2013.
