MANKATO, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team was swept in a doubleheader by Minnesota State, Mankato on Saturday, losing to the Mavericks 10-2 and 10-0 in Mankato, Minn.
MSUM fell to 11-19 with the losses while Minnesota State improved to 28-16.
In the opening game, MSUM managed just three hits. Senior center fielder
Mollie Annen was 2-for-3 with a run scored, while sophomore first baseman
Lauren Meeker was 1-for-2. Senior shortstop
Taylor Huss and junior pitcher
Morgan Nybo both had RBI.
Nybo took the loss, allowing 10 runs, all earned, in four innings. She struck out two and walked one.
MSUM led 2-0 after the top of the first. Annen singled, and moved to second on a passed ball. Sophomore right fielder
Hannah Klug walked, and senior catcher
Brittany York walked to load the bases. Huss walked to force in Annen with the game's first run. Nybo reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Klug and giving MSUM an early 2-0 lead.
The Mavericks scored three runs in the bottom of the first as a part of 10 unanswered runs on their way to the win.
The Dragons were held without a hit in the second game and managed only two baserunners against Mankato pitcher Coley Ries. Senior right fielder
Rachel Sannicandro reached after being hit by a pitch and junior pitcher
Kristen Nordby reached on an error.
Nordby took the loss, allowing two earned runs in one inning. Sophomore right fielder
Carly Williamson pitched the final 3 2/3 innings, allowing eight earned runs.
MSUM is back in action Tuesday at Minot State. The doubleheader begins at 2 p.m. in Minot, N.D.
