MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State University Moorhead film production major Caleb Stumpfl has created an hour-long documentary on the Dragon men's basketball team's historic run to the NCAA Elite 8 and Dragon Athletics is excited to announce the premiere of the film will be at the Fargo Theatre on May 6.

"It's been an incredible ride," said Stumpfl.  "To be able to follow the guys all over and getting to know all the behind-the-scenes pranks and their unique personalities has been an absolute blast.  It was a great privilege for them to include me and to trust me to cover every moment, every setback, every celebration, and to put it all together.  There's a reason they made history and I think this film gives an insight into what made them so successful."

Stumpfl followed the team all season long including traveling to the NSIC/Sanford Health Basketball Tournament, the NCAA Regional Tournament, and the NCAA Elite 8 in Evansville, Indiana.  He also sat down each member of the team and coaches for lengthy interviews to help tell the story of their historic season.

"This is a win-win situation," said MSUM athletics director Doug Peters.  "We have the opportunity to promote our basketball program and the unique experiences MSUM offers our students.

"What better way to commemorate something that's never been done before than by making something no one has ever made before," said MSUM assistant athletics director Jon Wepking about the documentary.  "This isn't just a kudos to the team, it's also a great example of what MSUM students are capable of.  I'm probably more excited for Caleb than anything to see his film screened at the historic Fargo Theatre and to have the title of it on the marquee on Broadway is something really special.  It's a huge honor and he's earned it with the amount of work he's put into the project."

Admission to the premiere will be FREE because of the wonderful support of our sponsors listed below.

"I've seen pieces of it and it was a lot of fun going through the whole year all over again," said MSUM head coach Chad Walthall.  "These guys are a special group and this is a unique way to relive their accomplishments.  Having it at the Fargo Theatre I hope will bring the community back together again around this great group of guys.  I just can't say enough good things about them and I think this will show everyone what we've been talking about all year, a class group of friends who happen to be really really good at basketball."

AFTER THE PREMIERE

The premiere of MSUM film student Caleb Stumpfl's "TOGETHER: Dragon Basketball's Historic Season" on Wednesday night at the Fargo Theatre was attended by over 300 people and reviews were overwhelmingly positive.

Reviews below may contain some information about the film, so consider this a partial "spoiler alert".

"It was fun to relive all the emotions of the season.  I cried in the first ten seconds, so I knew it was going to be great from the start."

-Holly Hoeschen

"Caleb did such a nice job telling the story of the season.  I thought it was really a special moment for everyone who helped put it together, the team, and for the community to see that it was a really special moment."

-Aaron Lien

"It was amazing.  I was laughing, crying, it felt like you were the for the whole season."

-Arlan Swenson

"It was so professionally done, the music, the narrative, the story…they just pulled if off.  I cried…the opening and how it tied into the end.  The sense of humor of the team that no one knows about.  It was very enjoyable."

-Jan Mahoney

"It really exceeded my expectations.  I'm just so happy that the players have something like this to look at forever, what a gift.  There were a lot of firsts for us this year and it's great to have it documented like this.  My favorite part was watching Ngijol and Prescott behind me during interviews making faces, but there were a lot of sentimental parts, happy parts, it has everything.  Caleb did a great job.  He's obviously talented…our guys could learn something from him.  As hard as they worked, he worked just as hard, if not harder to put this thing together.  Great work ethic with great talent and great things happen."

-Chad Walthall

"This is a night I'll remember for the rest of my life.  To be able to tell their story and see it on a big screen like that was so memorable.  The support of the community, the students, the fans, and faculty and everyone was unbelievable.  I feel very privileged.  I'm pretty tired, pulled about 4 all-nighters in the last week…it was all worth it to finish this thing.  I worked harder on this than any other project I've done in my entire life.  It challenged me in a lot of ways, but that made it more rewarding to finish."

-Caleb Stumpfl
