Box Score WINONA, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team set yet another school record Sunday afternoon by claiming its 16th straight victory. The No. 4 Dragons defeated the Winona State Warriors 93-72 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play in Winona.
MSUM is now 16-1 on the season, 8-0 in the NSIC while Winona State is 5-7 overall and 4-4 in the conference.
MSUM was 30-of-58 from the field for 51.7 percent and gathered 33 boards. The Dragons converted 12 points off turnovers compared to just two for the Warriors. The Dragons shot a torrid 53.3 percent (16-of-30) from three-point range.
Sevlie and the Dragons came out firing the first half taking a quick 9-3 lead, Sevlie claiming six of those nine points. Midway through the half, the Dragons took their largest lead of the half at 11, on a three from Ayob, who brought the score to 28-17. The Warriors began to claw their way back, but MSUM ended the half on a run and carried at 43-36 lead into the locker room.
The Dragons regained an 11-point lead with 16 minutes to go in the second half on a layup from Vaughan, 54-43. The Warriors brought the score within four, but a three-pointer from Lien gave MSUM a 63-56 lead from which they would never fall. Kretchman gave the Dragons their largest lead of the game on a layup with just under two minutes to go, 93-67.
The Dragons are back at home Friday against Mary. Game time is 8 p.m. in Moorhead, Minn.
