Sevlie Scores Career-High 38 and Surpasses 1,000 Points, Lifts Dragons Over Beavers 97-89 By: Chelsey Stoa - Athletic Media Relations Assistant Beth Nelson Men's Basketball | 1/9/2016 8:37:00 PM Box Score MOORHEAD, Minn. – Senior center Isaac Sevlie scored a career-high 38 points and surpassed 1,000 points for his collegiate career to lead the No. 3-ranked Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team to a 97-89 win over Minot State in action Saturday night in Moorhead, Minn.The Dragons are now 17-2 on the season and 9-1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Beavers are 7-9 on the year and 2-8 in conference play. Sevlie finished 12-of-16 from the floor and 12-of-14 from the foul line in the game. He also grabbed six boards to lead MSUM. Senior guard Ngijol Songolo had 15 points, four assists and three steals while sophomore guard Tanner Kretchman had 12 points and six assists. Senior guard Evan Holt added 11 points and senior guard Tyler Vaughan had 10 to give the Dragons five players in double figures.MSUM shot 52.5 percent from the field going 31-of-59 on the game while the Beavers shot 56.9 percent and 33-of-58. The Beavers outrebounded the Dragons, 30-26 and MSUM swiped seven steals compared to just two for the Beavers. The game was tied at 11 with 14 minutes to go in the first half before a three from Holt gave the Dragons a 14-11 lead. With three minutes left in the first the Dragons trailed 37-36 when junior forward Ayob Ayob came up with a huge steal and kicked it up to Songolo for the lay-in. The Dragons took a 40-39 lead into the half. MSUM came out on a tear the second half, taking a 53-43 on a beautiful spin move from Sevlie. The Beavers would battle back, but would not get within six the rest of the night. A three-point play from Sevlie would give the Dragons a 10-point lead with 2:30 remaining in the game to seal the victory. The Dragons are back in action on Friday, Jan. 15 with a match against the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) at 8 p.m. at Nemzek Fieldhouse.
