MSUM Women’s Volleyball Loses to No. 1 Minnesota Duluth, 3-0

DULUTH, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead Volleyball team dropped a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match at No. 1 Minnesota Duluth (19-0, 11-0 NSIC) on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs won 25-17, 25-8, 25-16.

MSUM is now 8-11 overall and 3-8 in the NSIC.

 

The Dragons hit .155 as a team, putting down 24 kills on 21 assists, to go along with 20 digs and two blocks. Junior Taylor Liesemeyer and junior captain Carly Masloski each had a team-high five kills.

 

Redshirt-freshman Sarah Hagler, freshman Courtney Selbitschka and senior Tyann Caspers had three kills apiece. Sophomore libero Monica Vega recorded a team-best six digs, and redshirt-freshman setter Makayla Wenzel had 15 assists.

 

In the first set MSUM played UMD close hanging within two points at 10-8. A 9-2 run by the Bulldogs created the separation needed to win the first set. The final score was in favor of UMD 25-17. Selbitschka had three kills, while Caspers and Liesemeyer each had two.

 

Hagler and Masloski each had two kills in a quick second set. Minnesota Duluth jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead. The Bulldogs never looked back ending the second set 25-8. The Dragons didn't go down without a fight, hanging close in the second set down four points 12-8. The Bulldogs went on a 5-1 run to put the game out of reach for good, winning 25-16.

 

The Dragons return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at home for a NSIC Match with No. 13 Northern State. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
