MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's swimming and diving team will compete in a pair of duals this week. MSUM will host Northern State at 5:30 p.m. on Friday before traveling to Bismarck, N.D., to face the University of Mary at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
MSUM went 2-4 in duals at the Northern Michigan quad.
The dual vs. Northern State is MSUM's home opener. The Dragons beat the Wolves in duals twice at the NMU quad.
Junior
Erin Sullivan led the way for MSUM with four wins. On Friday she won the 50 and 100 backstroke events and followed with wins in the 100 back and 200 back on Saturday. Freshman
Breah Anderson started off her collegiate career strong with two wins in the 50 free (one each on Friday and Saturday). MSUM's 400 free relay, consisting of Sullivan, sophomore
Taylor Beynon, freshman
Leticia Rodovalho and Anderson, won on Friday with a time of 3:56.43, which is the third-fastest time in D2 this season.
In addition to being part of the winning 400 relay, Beynon finished with five top three finishes over the two days. Several Dragons improved their times significantly from the same meet in 2015.
Todd Peters is in his 20th season as MSUM's head coach.
About Northern State
The Wolves are 1-7 in duals this season, with the victory over Mary on Oct. 7. The Wolves do possess one of the top swimmers in Division II in junior Hannah Kastigar, who won six events for the Wolves at the NMU quad. A transfer from Division I Grand Canyon University, Kastigar has been a two-time NSIC Swimmer of the Week.
About Mary
Mary is in its inaugural season of swimming and diving and will compete in the NSIC Championships in February. The Marauders are under the direction of Head Coach Allan McCallum. The 15-member team lost in its first-ever competition on Oct. 7, losing to Northern State (209-52) and Augustana (189-65). Meghan Mokhtary and Elizabeth Moriaty each had runner-up finishes to lead the Marauders.
