Kuznia and Sullivan Lead Dragon Swimmers Past Mary

Meet Results
BISMARCK, N.D. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's swimming and diving team won nine of 14 events on its way to a 149-110 win over the University of Mary in a dual Sunday at the BSC Aquatic and Fitness Center in Bismarck, N.D. Senior Madison Kuznia and junior Erin Sullivan each claimed two individual wins to lead the Dragons.

MSUM is now 4-4 in duals this season. The Dragon divers did not compete as Mary does not field a diving squad.

"It was great to be part of UMary's first ever home meet at the fast pool in the Bismarck Aquatic Center," MSUM head coach Todd Peters said. "We continued to have fast swims across the board.  We rested a few swimmers with minor injuries which gave many other athletes the opportunity to step up.  Freshmen Téa Nyland, McKenna Togstad, Abby Kostiuk, and Courtney Skarie all had great weekends for us."

Kuznia won the 100 back in 1:00.46 and also claimed the 200 back in 2:13.90 to give her two wins on the day.

Sullivan won the 50 free in 25.51 and claimed the 100 IM in 1:02.73 and also led off the winning 400 medley relay.

MSUM went 1-2 in the 400 medley relay. The 'A' relay, consisting of Sullivan, sophomore Taylor Beynon, freshman Leticia Rodovalho and senior Ashley Higgins, teamed up for that win in 4:05.50. The 'B' relay was second in 4:10.56, with Kuznia, freshman Téa Nyland, sophomore Natalie Kampa and sophomore Linnea Johnson combining for that time.

The Dragons went 1-2-3 in the 1,000 free with Beynon winning in 10:58.30 (season-best), freshman McKenna Togstad second in 11:17.53 and sophomore Molly O'Brien third in 11:25.58. Beynon was runner-up in the 500 free in 5:26.10.

Senior Shae Bodrero, who is returning from an injury, won the 100 breast with a season-best of 1:09.96 and was second in the 200 breast in 2:33.89, also a season-best

Higgins and Johnson tied for the win in the 100 free in 56.54. Rodovalho captured the 200 fly in 2:12.19 and was second in the 100 fly in 1:02.08.

Kampa was second in the 200 free in 2:01.82. Freshman Courtney Skarie had strong swims in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.17), a season best, and the 200 breaststroke (2:36.84), which was five seconds better than her lifetime best.

MSUM's 800 free relay 'A' team was second in 8:20.27. That consisted of Sullivan, Higgins, Rodovalho and Kampa. She also almost overcame an eight-second deficit in the 800 free relay by making up nearly six seconds on the final leg with a 2:00.07.

MSUM returns to action on Oct. 29 when it hosts Augustana. The dual is at 2 p.m. at the Nemzek Pool.
