MANKATO, Minn. — Despite two wins from sophomore
Taylor Beynon, the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's swimming and diving team fell to Minnesota State, 186-114 in action Friday night in Mankato, Minn.
MSUM fell to 6-5 in duals while MSU is now 1-1.
"We had a good plan to win the meet tonight and for the most part we executed what we needed to do, the Mavericks just out-competed us," MSUM head coach
Todd Peters said. "In fact, they had three pool record performances tonight and those were the races that made the biggest difference. We needed to start out with a win in the 200 Medley Relay, but Mankato had their first pool record swim in that event for the win. We finished 2-3-4 in both the 1,000 free and 200 free and then won both the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke, and we were just five points back. Mankato's Taylor Bass dropped seven seconds from her season best to break the pool record and win the 200 butterfly, which we expected to win, but we had to settle for 2-3-4. Mankato went on to win the next four events, the 50 free, 3 meter diving, the 100 free and 200 backstroke. We had hoped to take two of those four, but Mankato's Chelsea Calhoun broke the pool record to give
Erin Sullivan her first loss this year in the 200 back.
Taylor Beynon did her part by winning the 200 breaststroke for her second win of the night.
Danica Scheef nearly pulled out the win in the 500 free, but was narrowly out-touched by 0.24 seconds and the Dragons settled for 2-3-4 in that event."
Beynon won the 100 breast in 1:08.41 and added a win in the 200 breast in 2:26.23 to give her two wins on the night. Beynon was second in the 200 IM in 2:14.91 while senior
