MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team will play two games this week. MSUM hosts Valley City State on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Nemzek Hall and then opens Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play on Saturday at Northern State (4 p.m. tipoff).
MSUM is 2-1 on the season and enters the week on a two-game winning streak.

About the Dragons
MSUM went 2-0 to win the Quincy WBB Holiday Classic on Nov. 18-19 in Quincy, Ill. MSUM dominated Quincy, 75-44 and Maryville, 61-42 to earn the wins. Junior forward
Drew Sannes was named the tournament MVP after averaging a double-double in two games. Junior guard
Cassidy Thorson was also named to the all-tournament team.
Thorson leads MSUM at 16.0 points per game while Sannes averages 14.7 points and 12.3 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard
Jacky Volkert averages 8.7 points per game.
Senior guard
Natalie Van Wyhe averages 3.1 assists and 2.9 steals per game. The Dragons average 62.7 points per game and shoot 43.3 percent from the field. They outrebound their foes 39.3-26.7.
Their defense has been strong, allowing just 49.3 points per game, second-best in the NSIC. Teams are shooting 38.1 percent against the Dragons.
Karla Nelson is in her 17th season as the MSUM head coach with a record of 278-178 at the school.
About Valley City State
Valley City State is 6-3 on the season. The Vikings enter Wednesday's game on a three-game winning streak, having beaten York College (82-61) and Bethany College (66-58) on Nov. 11-12 at the York Classic in York, Neb.
Georgia Williams leads Valley City State at 13.3 points per game while Lexi Lennon is at 12.6 and Kennedy Henningsgard is at 11.0. Alli Vandal is at 10.6 points per game. Vandal leads at 7.0 rebounds per game while Lennon averages 2.5 assists per contest. Valley City State scores 72.8 points per game and shoots 42.1 percent from the field.
The Vikings have been solid defensively, allowing just 55.2 points per game. Teams are shooting 35.7 percent against them this season. They outrebound their foes 36.6-33.4.
Jill DeVries is in her 17th season as Valley City State's head coach with a record of 265-252.
About Northern State
The Wolves are 4-0 on the season after rolling to a 71-45 road win over Nebraska-Kearney on Nov. 21. Gabby Laimer had 16 points while Brianna Kusler had 13 for Northern State.
The Wolves boast the best scoring defense in the NSIC, allowing just 48.0 points per game. Northern also has been dominant on the boards by outrebounding its foes 34.0-24.3.
Junior Jill Conrad leads Northern at 16.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game while Miranda Ristau averages 14.0 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Latimer averages 9.0 points per game while Bethany Crosswait leads at 3.9 assists per contest. Northern State is scoring 64.5 points per game and shooting 49.2 percent from the field.
Curt Fredrickson is in his 38th season as Northern State's head coach with a record of 800-293. He recorded his 800th career win Monday at Kearney.
