MSUM Wrestlers to Compete at Desert Duals in Las Vegas on Monday

MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team will compete at the Desert Duals in Las Vegas, Nev., on Monday. MSUM will compete in four duals at the event and will face Embry-Riddle, Menlo, California Baptist and Wheeling Jesuit at the event.

The tournament will be held on the second floor of the Flamingo Convention Center in Las Vegas.

MSUM is 1-2 in duals this season, having lost to No. 8-ranked Augsburg, 25-12 on Dec. 7. Senior Blake Bosch won by technical fall at 133 for MSUM while senior Nader Abdullatif won by major decision at 285. Sophomore Kristian Vazquez won 9-2 at 141 for the other Dragon victory on the night.

Blake Bosch is ranked No. 3 in the nation at 133 pounds and has a 14-1 record. He enters the Dakota Duals just three wins away from 100 for his career.

Senior Nader Abdullatif is 10-5 at 285 while sophomore Adam Blees is 8-4 at 174. Sophomore Jared Goldsmith is 10-6 at 125 while sophomore Dylan Connell is 8-6. Senior Isaac Novacek is 9-7 at 149.

Kris Nelson is in his eighth season as MSUM's head coach.

About Embry-Riddle
The Eagles are 2-3 in duals this season and will face Menlo prior to facing MSUM. In their last dual competition on Dec. 2, they went 1-2, losing to Oklahoma City (25-19), beating Lindsey Wilson (22-18) and Northwest College (24-19). Chandler Strand is 9-2 at 125 pounds for Embry-Riddle while James Williams is 10-3 at 157.  KC Rock is in his fifth season as the Embry-Riddle head coach.

About Menlo
Menlo, which is ranked fifth in the NAIA Coaches Poll, is 2-0 in duals this season beating Southern Oregon, 34-11 and Simpson University, 41-9 in duals. The team will face Embry-Riddle in a dual on Dec. 17. The team has also competed at three open events. The Oaks have four nationally-ranked NAIA wrestlers:  Troy Lakin (No. 2, 125); Brian Ha (No. 2, 133); Steele Escobedo (No. 3, 141) and Joseph Jauregui (No. 8). Joey Martinez is in his eighth season as the Menlo head coach.

About California Baptist
California Baptist is 1-2 in duals this season. The Lancers' two losses came to Division I foes, Bakersfield (29-12) and Cal Poly (30-13). They do have a 31-10 win over Embry-Riddle.  Nick Fiegner is 11-2 at 184 pounds while Nolan Kistler is 9-3 at 174. Paul Head is 8-2 at 285 for the Lancers. Lennie Zalesky is in his sixth season as the Cal Baptist head coach.

About Wheeling Jesuit
The No. 20-ranked Cardinals are 2-0 in duals with wins over Alderson Broaddus (34-10) and West Liberty (38-3). Greg Brusco is 13-2 at 157 pounds while Dominick Nania is 12-4 at 149. Daniel Romero is 13-3 at 141 pounds while Nolan Whitely is 11-4 at 133. Sean Doyle is in his third season as the Wheeling Jesuit head coach.
