Dragons End 2016 on the Right Foot, Defeat Concordia-St. Paul 74-60

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Minnesota State University Moorhead (11-3, 6-2 NSIC) headed into the new year on a high note, winnings its final game of 2016 by defeating Concordia-St. Paul (4-10, 1-6 NSIC) by a final score of 74-60.

 

Four Dragons registered double figures, led by 19 points from senior guard Jon Doss.

 

How It Happened…

Neither team managed to take control of the game for much of the first half. MSUM opened the game with a made three from junior guard Tanner Kretchman, but couldn't build more than a five point lead until 6:14 remaining when MSUM led 28-20.

 

The Golden Bears managed to cut the deficit to 28-27, but entered halftime down 32-29. Doss shot 4-for-6 from the field in the first half for a team-high 12 points, for a Dragons squad that shot 13-of-26 (50.0 percent) from the field.

 

MSUM opened the second half with an 8-2 run, building its largest lead of the game 40-31. Pushing its lead to 11 with 10:03 left, made shots from freshman guard Johnny Beeninga, sophomore forward Addison Park, Lien and Kretchman saw the Dragons with a 65-52 lead. The Dragons managed to hold this margin for the remainder of the game, winning 74-60.

 

Impact Performances…

Senior guard Jon Doss recorded his best performance since the season opener, scoring 19 points with one rebound, one assist and one steal.

 

Junior guard Tanner Kretchman finished with 17 points. Kretchman had five assists to just one turnover with three rebounds. Senior forward Ayob Ayob and sophomore forward Addison Park rounded out the double digit scorers with 10 apiece.

The Dragons have now won five straight at home versus Concordia-St. Paul. The last time the Golden Bears won in Moorhead was a 76-54 verdict on Dec. 12, 2009.
