The Dragons broke the record for most points scored in an NSIC tournament game. The Dragons are now 28-4 on the year while the Wildcats finished at 5-24. MSUM will face Upper Iowa in the tournament quarterfinals at noon on Saturday at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D.Senior guard Tyler Vaughan tied a career-high 26 points and added eight rebounds, three assists and one block. Vaughan went 6-of-10 from three point range for an astounding 60 percent. Sophomore guard Tanner Kretchman added 19 points and also tied a career-high in assists at 13 while junior guard Ayob Ayob had 19 points and nine rebounds on the evening. Senior guard Evan Holt had 18 points and senior center Isaac Sevlie put up 16 points and five rebounds. The Dragons shot 65 percent from the field including 52 percent from three-point range while the Wildcats shot 42 percent from the field. MSUM grabbed 39 boards and got 20 points off the bench while WSC had 31 boards. Steve d'Eustachio Stat of the Game: The 109 points scored by the Dragons breaks the NSIC Tournament record for points previously held by Bemidji State. Vaughan would extend the Dragon lead, scoring on five consecutive trips down the court, including back-to-back-to-back three pointers, making the score 43-30 with 5:15 to play in the first. Holt would hit a three with 17 seconds to play in the half, giving the Dragons a 59-40 lead going into the locker room. The Dragons would continue to roll in the second half, scoring on a Sevlie jumper with 16:54 to play, making the score 68-46. Vaughan would give the Dragons their largest lead of the game at 33 on a layup at the 9 minute mark of the second half, 94-61. A triple from Holt broke the century mark for the Dragons and gave them a 101-76 lead with just under five minutes to play in the game. A pair of free-throws from Kretchman with 30 seconds to play would seal the Dragons the victory at 109-83. The Dragons are back in action for the second round of the NSIC/Sanford Health men's basketball tournament on Saturday at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls.
