MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team (6-4, 1-1 NSIC) returns to action this week with one road match, and two home matches.
On Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. the Dragons head to No. 11 Northern State (9-1, 2-0 NSIC). MSUM returns to Nemzek Fieldhouse for a two-game home stand later in the week. On Friday, September 23 the Dragons host the No. 4 Wildcats of Wayne State (9-1, 1-1 NSIC). On Saturday, September 24 MSUM hosts No. 14 Augustana (9-1, 2-0 NSIC), game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
Last week, the Dragons split their first two Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matches going 1-1. In the first match, MSUM defeated Minot State (5-6, 0-2 NSIC) in straight sets 3-0. The Dragons hit the road for a conference matchup against the University of Mary (6-5, 1-1 NSIC). The Beavers got the best of the Dragons winning the match 3-1.
Junior captain hitter
Carly Masloski leads MSUM with 131 total kills this season. Masloski is averaging 3.36 kills/set hitting .186 at the net. She is ranked 9th overall in the NSIC for kills/set. Redshirt-freshmen hitters
Sarah Hagler and
Ellie Rutten have stepped into some big shoes this season, and are performing like seasoned veterans. Hagler is second on the team in kills with 101. She is hitting a team-high .297 and leads the team with 42 total blocks. Rutten is hitting .236 with 85 kills, 48 digs and 16 total blocks.
Senior captain defensive specialist
Katie Meyers has accumulated 75 digs for the Dragons, and has a serve percentage of .959. Junior defensive specialist
Sydney Foss has amassed a team second-best 95 digs.
NSIC Opener Success
With last weeks straight set sweep of Minot State in the Dragons NSIC Season opener, MSUM improved to 5-2 in its NSIC opener in the last seven seasons.
Set 'Em Up
Redshirt-freshman
Makayla Wenzel (Chaska, Minn.) has stepped into the setter role with poise. So far, the redshirt-freshman has amassed 420 assists in 10 games averaging 10.77 assists/set. She ranks seventh in the NSIC for assists.
Libero Love
Sophomore libero
Monica Vega has gotten off to a hot start in the 2016 season. So far this season she has 221 digs averaging 5.67 digs/set. She had a career-high 37 digs against Central Methodist (Mo.) on Sept. 3. Vega was named the D2 Volleyball Hero of the Week by herosports.com earlier this season. Vega currently ranks second in the NSIC in digs.

Monica Vega leads the Dragons in total serve attempts, and has served without error in 8-out-of-10 matches this year.
Tough Slate Ahead
This week, the Dragons will face three NSIC opponents ranked in the AVCA Top-25 Coaches poll. Wayne State is ranked 4th Northern State is ranked 11th, and Augustana is up to #14 is the third week of the poll.

MSUM plays two NSIC road matches next week. First, the Dragons will take on Sioux Falls on Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. MSUM then travels to #5 Southwest Minnesota State on Oct. 1 for a match at 3 p.m.
