Thorson Sets Record, No. 15 Dragon Women Roll Past St. Cloud State 95-69

MOORHEAD, Minn. — Junior forward Cassidy Thorson set a single-game record with eight 3-pointers to help the No. 15 Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team to a 95-69 rout of St. Cloud State on Saturday at Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead, Minn.

MSUM is now 16-2 overall and 13-1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference with the win while St. Cloud State fell to 8-10 overall and 6-8 in the league. MSUM has a two-game lead in the NSIC race as both Winona State and Sioux Falls lost at home on Saturday.

The Dragons shot 48.5 percent (32-of-66) for the game compared to 49.1 percent (26-of-53) for the Huskies. MSUM had a 34-32 edge in rebounds and forced 23 turnovers, which gave the Dragons a 34-5 edge in points off of turnovers. The Dragons also had a 20-4 edge in second-chance points thanks to 12 offensive rebounds.

Thorson set records for three-pointers made (eight) and attempted (17) in the game, breaking the previous mark of seven made held by Marisa Yernatich and current Dragon Morgan Ham, who hit 7 three-pointers in a road win at Mary earlier this season.

How It Happened
A 15-0 Dragon run to close out the first quarter turned a 14-11 deficit into a 26-14 lead after one quarter. Thorson had six points during that run while freshman forward Kourtney Selensky added a three. A total of five Dragons scored during that run.

St. Cloud State cut the lead to 33-24 with 6:04 left in the second quarter but the Dragons outscored the Huskies 14-9 to close the half to take a 47-33 lead into halftime.

Thorson had 18 first-half points on 6-of-13 three-point shooting. Junior forward Drew Sannes had 13 points in the first half for MSUM.

The lead grew into the 20s in the third as a basket from junior forward Shannon Galegher made it 67-44 with 4:19 left in the third.

The Dragons pushed the lead to 28 points in the fourth on their way to the 26-point win.

Impact Performances
Thorson finished with a career-high 28 points on 10-for-21 shooting from the field. She also had four assists and a game-high three steals.

Sannes had her eighth double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Sophomore Jacky Volkert had 11 points and a game-high eight assists.

Junior forward Shannon Galegher had nine points in 14 minutes off the bench while freshman forward Megan Hintz had eight points in 13 minutes off the bench.

Senior guard Natalie Van Wyhe had four points, three assists and two steals.
