MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's swim and dive team will look to continue its hot start to the season at the St. Cloud State Quad this weekend. The action will begin Friday at 4 p.m., and will resume on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Cloud State in St. Cloud, Minn.
The Dragons will compete in two duals each against St. Cloud State, Northern Michigan and Northern State on the weekend. (One each day).
The Dragons are coming off a 197-97 win over the University of Mary that put them at 2-0 on the young season. There were three Dragons who won multiple events: sophomore
Breah Anderson, senior
Erin Sullivan, and junior
Amber Westereng, who won both diving events.
The Dragons also won the 800 freestyle relay, as the team of Anderson, junior
Linnea Johnson, senior
Megan Gates, and Sullivan finished with a time of 8:14.26. The Dragons also won the 400 medley, which consisted of Sullivan, Bevnon, junior
Sami DuVal, and Anderson.
Other top performers for the Dragons include junior
Linnea Johnson, who had runner-up finishes in the 50 free (25.84) and the 100 free (57.02).
A day earlier, MSUM beat Northern State 171-107. Junior
Taylor Beynon won three events while Anderson won two. Also picking up wins were Sullivan, sophomore
Leticia Rodovalho and sophomore
Noelle Berg.
About the Huskies
St. Cloud State came into the season having been picked to finish first in the NSIC. So far, they are 0-2 on the season, with two losses to the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. The Huskies did pick up first-place finishes from Lindsey Lewis, Andrea Bryson, Ashley Wilson, and Brooke Calvin. After the St. Cloud Quad, the Dragons will travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. where they will face the University of Sioux Falls and Augustana University in a pair of duals
About Northern Michigan
Northern Michigan comes into the quad with a record of 2-0 thanks to two wins over Findlay. The Wildcats also set two school records, as Rachel Helm finished the 200-yard in 2:00.76. The 200-yard medley team also set a school record, finishing in 1:46.12. Gabriella Spajic won three events to lead the Wildcats.
About Northern State
The Wolves are 0-5 overall in duals. They lost to MSUM in their last action on Oct. 13. Sophomore Edda Skoric led the way with three first-place finishes. The Wolves return the NSIC Preseason Swimmer of the Year, Hannah Kastigar, who won the national titles in the 400 IM and 200 butterfly in 2017.
