The Minnesota State University Moorhead football team plays for the State Farm Red River Valley Showdown trophy this week at Minnesota Crookston. Game time is 1 p.m. on Saturday at Ed Widseth Field in Crookston.

The game will be broadcast online with Dragon broadcasters Steve d'Eustachio and Larry Scott on the call. Live video, stats and audio can be found at msumdragons.com.

MSUM and UMC will meet for a 19th time with the Dragons leading the all-time series 11-7. The Dragons have won the past two meetings by a combined 166-69 total score. UMC's last win was in 2013.

The Head Coaches
Steve Laqua is in his seventh season as MSUM's head coach with a record of 26-47 at the school. Mark Dufner is in his first season as UMC's head coach with a record of 0-7.

About MSUM
The Dragons fell to St. Cloud State, 31-7 on the road on Oct. 14. MSUM led 7-0 in the second quarter before St. Cloud State scored 31 unanswered points to take the win. Senior receiver Hunter Braaten had eight catches for 97 yards and a score.

For the season, senior quarterback Demetrius Carr has thrown for 1,680 yards and eight touchdowns.  Senior receiver Damon Gibson has caught 54 passes for 635 yards and three scores while Braaten has 40 catches for 428 yards and a score while Bresnahan has 30 catches for 416 yards and four scores.  Senior running back Austin Stone has 397 rushing yards and five scores.

MSUM scores 21.3 points a game and records 385.0 yards of total offense per game.

Senior linebacker Abe Roehrich leads the defense with 47 tackles and two fumble recoveries. Junior linebacker Carter Thiel and junior defensive back Aaron Doan each have 38 tackles. Redshirt freshman Darin Gipson has 31 tackles, including 6.5 for loss and 2.5 sacks. Sophomore Miles Baggett leads with four sacks while junior cornerback Jerry Raye has an interception.

The Dragons allow 28.9 points per game and 354.4 yards of total offense.

About Minnesota Crookston
The Golden Eagles are 0-7 overall losing to Mary, 30-6 on Oct. 14. They trailed just 3-0 at halftime but were outscored 27-6 in the second half. Joseph Nava threw for 262 yards and rushed for a score in the defeat for the Golden Eagles.

Nava has thrown for 839 yards, five touchdown and two interceptions while completing 53.2 percent of his passes. Senior receiver Adam Connette is having a big year with 45 catches for 528 yards and six scores. Rod Stewart has 31 catches for 392 yards and two scores. Kevin Evans leads the ground game with 197 yards.   As a team UMC scores 10.4 points per game and records 244 yards per game of total offense.

Will Cole leads the defense with 62 tackles, while Will Cross has 52 tackles. Austin Howard leads with 6.5 tackles for loss, including a team-best 1.5 sacks. UMC allows 43.7 points a game and 521.9 yards per game of total offense.

Braaten Moves Into Top 5

Senior receiver Hunter Braaten has moved into the top five in career receptions at MSUM. Braaten had eight catches for 97 yards in the loss at SCSU. In his four-year Dragon career, Braaten has 149 receptions and nine touchdowns.  He is 13 catches behind Cory Ambrose for fourth on the all-time receiving list at MSUM. Braaten is ninth in the NSIC at 61.1 receiving yards per game.

Bresnahan All-Purpose Threat
Redshirt freshman Grady Bresnahan is second in the NSIC at 123.6 all-purpose yards per game. He has a total of 865 all-purpose yards — 416 receiving yards, 177 punt return yards and 269 kick returns. Bresnahan is first in the NSIC at 13.6 yards per punt return.  He had a career-high nine catches for 146 yards and a score vs. UMD.

Carr Sets Record, Closes in on Another
Senior quarterback Demetrius Carr became MSUM's all-time leader in passing yards during the Dragons' contest at Northern State. Carr now has 7,509 yards passing, with Jake Hodge in second at 6,929. Carr is second in MSUM history in total offense with 8,558 yards, trailing only Hodge, who has 8,608. Carr is second in the NSIC at 240.0 passing yards per game and second in total offense (254.7).

Gibson Nearing 200
All-American wide receiver Damon Gibson continues to climb the career receiving charts at MSUM. Entering this week Gibson has 191 career receptions, which is third-most in MSUM history. He trails second-place Adam Jiskra by nine and all-time leader Jabari Taylor by 23. Gibson leads the NSIC in receptions (54), receptions per game (7.7) and receiving yards per game (92.7). The Beardsley, Minn., native is eighth in the nation in receptions per game and 22nd in receiving yards. Gibson has 17 100-yard receiving games in his Dragon career and tied a MSUM single-game record with 16 receptions at Northern State.

Week 8 Under Laqua
The Dragons are 3-3 in Week 8 games under Laqua, including a 47-16 win over U-Mary in 2016.. In 2011, they lost at Augustana, 35-3 and in 2012, they lost at Mary, 23-7. In 2013 they beat Mary, 48-41 and in 2014, they lost at Mary, 52-45. MSUM got a win in 2015 with a 30-20 victory at Minot State.

Miles Makes His Mark
Sophomore defensive end Miles Baggett is making a big impact from his defensive line position. He is third in the NSIC at 9.5 tackles for loss, including nine solo stops for loss.  Baggett is tied for fourth in the NSIC at four sacks, and he also has a forced fumble and fumble recovery.

Point for Point
Senior kicker Ruan Albuquerque is a perfect 20-of-20 on extra points this season. He is one of three NSIC kickers who is perfect on extra points this season, joining Adam Stage of St. Cloud State and Jonas Schenderlein of Concordia-St. Paul. Albuquerque has scored 29 points this season.
