ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Sophomore
Breah Anderson recorded a win and a solid night by junior
Taylor Beynon led the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's swimming and diving team at the opening day of the St. Cloud State quad Friday in St. Cloud, Minn. MSUM went 1-2 in duals on the day.
The Dragons beat Northern State 170-67 while losing to Northern Michigan (174-69) and St. Cloud State (148.5-94.50).
"We had a very competitive meet against St. Cloud this evening," MSUM head coach
Todd Peters said. "We have a few swimmers out with injuries and illness and that hurt us depth-wise at the end of the meet. Our team stepped up tonight and had many season-best performances. The divers were great on one-meter and we are excited about their improvements on the three-meter board as well."
MSUM won five of the first eight events – the 200 medley relay, 1,000 free, 50 free, 100 free and 200 fly -- vs. St. Cloud State and held the lead against the Huskies.
The reigning NSIC Swimmer of the Week, Anderson won the 50 free in 24.20 and was second in the 100 free in 53.64.
MSUM's 200 medley relay was second in 1:50.50. That consisted of senior
Erin Sullivan, sophomore
Erin Fons, sophomore
Haley Roed and
Breah Anderson.
Beynon was second in the 1,000 free in 11:05.30, third in the 200 IM in 2:14.37 and third in the 200 breaststroke as she competed well in three events.
Sophomore
Chantell Mindt was fourth in 1-meter diving at 208.40 with junior
Amber Westereng fifth at 198.90. MSUM placed second, third and fourth vs. St. Cloud State in the diving.
Sophomore
Leticia Rodovalho was fourth in the 200 fly at 2:14.27. Sullivan was sixth in the 200 backstroke at 2:14.73. Fons swam season bests of 2:21.71 in the 200 IM and 200 breaststroke (2:32.32).
MSUM's 200 free relay was fourth in 1:44.82. That consisted of Roed, junior
Linnea Johnson, junior
Natalie Huntley and junior
Josephine Hudoba.
The second day of the SCSU quad begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
