Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team swept Bemidji State University, 25-23, 25-20, 25-23.
The Dragons improve to 8-13 overall and 3-10 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action. The Beavers are now 3-19, 1-13 NSIC.
Sophomore hitter Courtney Selbitschka led MSUM with seven kills, while freshmen Kylie Kanwishcer and Lauren Kiewiet each had six. Freshmen setter Ellie Hoyt tallied 12 set assists and Kiewiet had 10. Taylor Thorson led the back row defense with 11 digs, while Selbitschka had ten and libero Monica Vega had eight. Kaylyn Jenkins and Vega each had two service aces for the Dragons, while Hoyt had one. Kanwischer, Jenkins, and Selbitschka all had two blocks.
The first set was tied early, 4-4, but a kill by Kanwischer and two Beaver attacking errors helped the Dragon pull ahead. MSUM remained in the lead until the score was 21-17, the Beavers scored four consecutive points to tie the set at 21. Despite BSU's efforts, MSUM won the first set 25-23 with the final point of the set coming from a kill by Sarah Hagler.
The second set was back-and-forth until BSU led 8-7. The Dragons scored seven of the next eight points to pull ahead with a 14-9 lead over the Beavers. MSUM maintained the lead throughout the rest of the set, ultimately winning with a score of 25-20.
The Beavers took an early 10-7 lead in the third set, but MSUM rallied with five back-to-back points to take a 12-10 lead. BSU also answered back to score five consecutive points regaining the lead at 15-12. The two teams traded off points until they were tied at 19. Kills from Selbitschka and Jenkins and a Beaver service error put the Dragons back in the lead to carry them to a 25-23 third set victory.
Up next, the Beavers will return home to take on University of Minnesota Duluth, Oct. 27 and St. Cloud State, Oct. 28.
