MSUM Volleyball Falls to Upper Iowa in Season Finale

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team fell to RV- Upper Iowa University in its 2017 season finale, 25-17, 25-14, 25-17.
 
The Dragons concluded its season with an overall record of 9-19 and finished 4-16 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. The Peacocks improved to 21-8, 12-8 NSIC.
 
Today's match was the 13th time this season that MSUM faced an opponent that was either ranked or receiving votes.
 
Freshman Lauren Kiewiet led the offense with eight kills, while sophomores Kaylyn Jenkins and Courtney Selbitschka had seven and four kills, respectively. Freshman Kylie Kanwisher, Kiewiet and Jenkins each had two blocks for the Dragons. Freshman Setter Ellie Hoyt led in assists with 13 and Kiewiet had 12. Libero Monica Vega had the most digs with 18, while Selbitschka had 15 digs and Taylor Thorson had six.
 
Upper Iowa pulled out to an early 6-0 lead in the beginning of the first set. Despite the Dragons efforts, they weren't able to see a lead in the first set eventually falling, 25-17. The second set was similar to the first with the Peacocks pulling ahead to a 7-2 lead. The Peacocks took the second set, 25-14.
 
The third set was more competitive with the Dragons starting out with a 4-0 lead thanks to kills from Kiewit, Selbitschka, Caspers and Thorson. MSUM was able to hold onto the lead until the score was 6-4 when Upper Iowa scored the next six points to pull ahead, 10-6. The peacocks won the third and final set, 25-17.
