MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team is now 9-15 overall and 4-12 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action after a 1-2 week. The Dragons upset No. 4-ranked Minnesota Duluth, 3-2, before falling to St. Cloud State, 3-1, and No. 7 Northern State, 3-0. This weekend MSUM will travel to take on Minnesota State-Mankato, Friday at 6 p.m. and No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul, Saturday at 2 p.m.

Minnesota State University Mankato
Minnesota State is 12-12 overall and 6-10 in the NSIC. The Mavericks also went 1-2 last week sweeping Sioux Falls before falling to both No. 1 Southwest Minnesota State (3-0) and No. 2 . Concordia-St. Paul (3-1). Sydney Powell leads the team in kills with 215, averaging 2.87 per set. Alivia Garbe has made 182 kills, while Morgan Olson has 169. As a team MSU is hitting .226 this season compared to its opponents at .199. Micayla Porter has 479 set assists, while Autumn Risch has 397. As a team Minnesota State Mankato leads the NSIC in service aces with a total of 159, averaging 1.87 per set. Micayla Porter leads the Mavericks in service aces with a total of 40 this season. Mara Quam is first on the team in digs with 363, while Garbe has 168 digs and Powell has 155. Anissa Janzig and Ashton Lee have the most blocks with 60 and 55, respectively. When the teams met earlier this season Minnesota State won, 3-2.
No. 1 Concordia University, St. Paul
Concordia-St. Paul is 22-2, 15-1 NSIC. The Golden Bears moved into the top spot in the rankings this week after taking down previously No. 1-ranked Southwest Minnesota State this past weekend, 3-1. CSP also defeated Sioux Falls (3-0) and Minnesota State (3-1) last week. The Golden Bears are hitting .286 on the season, while it's opponent are hitting .198. Brooklyn Lewis heads the offense with 347 kills, averaging 3.94 kills per set. Mariya Sampson has made 270 kills and Hope Schiller has made 242. Setter Elizabeth Mohr leads CSP and the NSIC in assists with 1,172, averaging 13.32 assists per set. Tori Hanson leads the back row defense with 332 digs, while Schiller has 288 digs, and Erin Fallert has 244. Shelby Seurer leads in blocks with a total of 64 blocks, 10 of them being solo blocks. When the Golden Bears and the Dragons met earlier this season, CSP came out on top, 3-1.

Vega Keeps Digging
Monica Vega added 54 more digs this past weekend including a season high of 31 vs. Minnesota Duluth. Vega is ranked fifth in the NSIC with 443 digs, averaging 5.09 digs per set. After her performance last weekend, the Ada, Minn. native is now MSUM's 10th all-time leader in digs with a total of 1,299 career digs.
Superior Net Defense
For the second straight week the Dragons lead the conference in blocks with a team total of 211.5, averaging 2.40 blocks per set. Freshman
Kylie Kanwischer has been consistently strong this season for the Dragons when it comes to blocking. Kanwischer is ranked second in the NSIC with 1.14 blocks per set.
Kaylyn Jenkins has also made her way into the rankings at 5th in the conference with 1.06 blocks per set. MSUM's blocking as a team ranks 11th in the nation.
Dragons to Face Tough Slate This Season
MSUM's 28-game 2017 schedule features seven matches against teams ranked in the AVCA Preseason Top-25, five of which are in the top-10. The Dragons play No. 1 Concordia - St. Paul, No. 2 Southwest Minnesota State, No. 5 Winona State, No. 7 Minnesota Duluth, No. 10 Augustana, No. 13 Winona State and No. 24 Northern State.

MSUM's 2017 regular season draws to a close within the next two weeks. This weekends match vs. Concordia-St. Paul will be MSUM's last road match of the regular season. The Dragons will return home to Face Winona State, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. and Upper Iowa, Nov. 11 at 4 p.m. to wrap up their 2017 season.
