MOORHEAD, Minn. – Minnesota State University Moorhead placed six players in double figures in a 90-64 win over Valley City State in exhibition men's basketball Monday in Moorhead, Minn.
Sophomore guard Evan Hines led MSUM with 17 points. Senior guard Tanner Kretchman had 16 points, junior forward Addison Park 15, junior guards Travaun Coad and A.J. Nywesh with 12 each and sophomore forward Matt Anderson with 10.
Anderson led with seven rebounds while Kretchman had five assists. Nywesh had three steals.
MSUM shot 56.5 percent (35-of-62) while Valley City State shot 49 percent (24-of-49). MSUM had a 36-25 edge in rebounds.
The Dragons led by as many as 13 in the first half and led by double digits at the break.
MSUM scored six of the final eight points of the half in taking a 51-41 lead into the break. Anderson had all six of those points.
Anderson led the Dragons with 10 first-half points while Kretchman had nine. Coad had eight points. Six Dragon players scored at least seven points in the first half.
Both teams shot well in the opening frame. MSUM shot 56.3 percent (18-of-32) while Valley City State shot 70.8 percent (17-of-24).
The Dragons led 62-53 but scored seven points in a row – with Nywesh converting a three-point play – to make it 69-53, and they steadily built on the lead from there.
MSUM opens the regular season on Friday in Lancaster, Texas vs. Henderson State.
