No. 12 MSUM Concludes Regular Season on Road at Huskies and Bulldogs

MOORHEAD, Minn. — The No. 12-ranked Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball team concludes the regular season this week with a pair of road contests. MSUM plays at St. Cloud State at 6 p.m. on Friday and ends the trip with a game at Minnesota Duluth at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

The Dragons have already clinched the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference title and also have won the NSIC North for a second straight year.  Now they will look to solidify their regional standing.

MSUM will meet St. Cloud State for a 56th time and trails in the series 33-22. The Dragons  rolled to a 95-69 win over the Huskies on Jan. 21. MSUM and UMD will meet for an 83rd time with the Bulldogs leading the series 50-32. UMD beat MSUM 71-59 on Jan. 20 in Moorhead.

About the Dragons
The Dragons, ranked No. 12 in the latest WBCA poll, enter the week at 21-3 overall and 18-2 in the NSIC. MSUM rolled to a pair of double-digit home wins last week, beating Bemidji State, 88-56 and Minnesota Crookston, 65-55 to wrap up their first NSIC regular-season title since 2004-05.

Junior forward Drew Sannes leads MSUM at 15.2 points and 8.6 rebounds per game, while junior guard Cassidy Thorson averages 15.0 points per game. Sophomore  Jacky Volkert averages 12.6 points per game and leads with 114 assists. Senior guard Natalie Van Wyhe leads the NSIC in assist to turnover ratio and has a team-best 31 steals

The Dragons allow 57.7 points per game, third-best in the NSIC. Teams are shooting only 38.1 percent against the Dragons this season. MSUM outrebounds its foes 37.5-31.8 and scores 70.9 points per game.

Karla Nelson is in her 17th season as the MSUM head coach with a record of 299-180 at the school.

About St. Cloud State
St. Cloud State is 11-13 overall and 9-11 in the NSIC. The Huskies won a pair of road games last weekend, beating Mary, 82-74 and Minot State, 76-69.

Betsey MacDonald leads SCSU at 18.1 points per game while Chelsea Nooker averages 14.3 points and 5.9 rebounds. Amanda Christianson averages 11.5 points per game while Andrea Thomas averages 3.6 assists per game. Nooker leads with 52 steals.

St. Cloud State is scoring 74.3 points per game and shooting 40.1 percent from the field. The Huskies lead the NSIC at 9.5 three-pointers made per game. On defense they have allowed 75.2 points per game and teams are shooting 44.6 percent against them this season. Teams outrebound SCSU 39.4-37.3.

Lori Fish is in her ninth season as St. Cloud State's head coach with a record of 119-98 at the school.

About Minnesota Duluth
Minnesota Duluth (13-11) enters this week on a three-game losing streak, all of which have come on the road. The Bulldogs lost to Minot State, 78-72 and to Mary, 65-51 to fall to 11-9 in conference play.

Sammy Kozlowski leads UMD at 14.0 points per game while Taylor Meyer is at 13.9. Allyson Harris averages 8.5. Meyer leads at 5.9 rebounds per game while Kozlowski leads with 4.0 assists and 2.6 steals per game.

UMD is scoring 64.1 points per game and shooting 39.5 percent from the field. The Bulldogs are being outrebounded 37.3-33.1 and are allowing 64.2 points per game.

Mandy Pearson is in her second season as UMD's head coach with a record of 20-30 at the school.
