MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team is now 4-0, 0-0 NSIC after winning all four matches in early season nonconference play at the Minot State Classic . This week the Dragons will travel to Quincy Ill. where they will compete in the Quincy Tournament.
Scouting the Opposition...
Wayne State University (Mich.)
The Warriors enter the tournament with a record of 3-1, with wins over Ohio Dominican, Minnesota State Mankato, and Wisconsin-Parkside before falling to Gannon in the final game of the Warrior Invitational. The Warriors are led by junior hitter Hailey Richardson, who is averaging 3.93 kills per set this season. Natalie Breault leads the team in assists with an average of 9.64 per set, while Olivia Fike leads in blocks, averaging 2.33 blocks per set. The Dragons are 2-0 all-time against the Warriors. Wayne State also looks to be a tough opponent as they received votes in the first week of the AVCA Top-25 Caoches Poll.
Quincy University
The Hawks post an early season record of 0-4 after losing to Upper Iowa, Northern Michigan, Cedarville, and Ferris State at the Ferris State Invitational. The top two attackers for the Hawks are Taylor McMonagle who has tallied a total to 35 kills and Bekah Raebel with 29 kills. Sophomore setter Sara Rathbun leads the team in assists averaging 4.31 per set. MSUM is 1-1 all-time versus QU.
Northwest Missouri State University
The Bearcats enter the tournament with a 1-3 record including their win over Grand Valley State at the Ferris State Invitational. Junior hitter Maddy Bruder leads the team in kills averaging 2.76 kills per set. Sarah Dannettell leads in assists with a total of 90 so far this season, while Alexis Williams leads the team with 0.92 blocks per set. The Dragons lead the series all-time record 5-4 against the Bearcats.
McKendree University
The Bearcats are 1-3 so far this season, after defeating Stainslaus State at the Concordia University-Irvine Labor Day Invitational. The top two attacker for the Bearcats is Arela Williams, who is has a total of 42 kills averaging 3.23 kills per set and Amanda Geiger who has made 36 kills on a .149 hitting percentage. Junior setter Morgan Melchert leads the team with assists averaging 8.46 per set. MSUM leads 1-0 all-time against McKendree.
