MANKATO, Minn. – Despite a pin from junior
Zach Scott, the Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team came up short against No. 21 ranked Minnesota State, Mankato on Friday, dropping a 36-9 dual to the Mavericks in Mankato, Minn.
MSUM fell to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Minnesota State improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the NSIC.
The Dragons surrendered bonus points at five classes as the Mavericks recorded two pins and three wins by technical fall.
Scott's pin at 141 brought MSUM within 8-6 in the dual. He pinned Louie Sanders in 5:28 to get the Dragons on the board.
The Mavericks got rolling from there, building a commanding 36-6 lead. Redshirt freshman
Jordan Magnuson got the final win of the evening for MSUM, topping Chris Zimmer, 3-1 at 285 pounds.
MSUM returns home to face Augustana at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21.
